8th Grade Course Selection Information

The course selection process for Burlington High School has started. The timeline below highlights the important dates, which are subject to change. Please contact the Marshall Simonds guidance office with any questions.

8th Grade Course Selection Timeline

Early February: Course Selection Assemblies – Guidance counselors meet with students in small groups to discuss courses, graduation requirements, course selection process, distribution of course selection sheets, etc.

February 6th: 8th Grade Parent Night: 8th grade parents are invited to Burlington High School at 6:00 PM.  Topics covered include: school policies, procedures and curricula, as well as specific information regarding the course selection process.

February 20th- Course recommendations from 8th grade teachers become viewable to parents/students on Aspen. An email will be sent from the Student Information Office with instructions and  will also included on the blog.

March- Meetings held with 8th grade parents and students to finalize course selections. These meetings will be scheduled via the MSMS Guidance Department.

BPS Flu Information

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Several parents have called the district administration offices and schools with concern of what our district is doing to protect your children and prevent the spread of the flu. Please know that as the district head nurse I speak with the Burlington DPH nurse on a daily basis.  We do not currently have any atypical concerns in our schools and we took steps several months ago with the retraining of the custodial staff on the correct cleaning process of our schools to prevent the spread of the flu.  We have created this educational post to assist you in your understanding of the flu and the actions our district is taking.  The health and safety of your children are always our priority.

Influenza (also known as the flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. The flu is different from a cold. Below is information showing the signs and symptoms of Influenza and the common cold.

If your child is going to miss school due to an illness, please call MSMS absent line and let us know that your child is home sick. In addition, if you could please state if your child has been diagnosed with the flu by a doctor, or flu like symptoms (below).

Sphero Activity Block Gears up for the Winter Olympics!

MSMS has been gearing up for the 2018 Winter Olympics during the past two Activity Block offerings.  Mrs. Floyd and Mrs. Tate have designed the Sphero and Ollie Olympics where students code their robot to compete in several individual and team events.  Some simple events like curling only involve one line of code where more complex events such as the slalom course will require many lines of code.  Events include: curling, bowling, slalom skiing, downhill skiing, synchronized Spheros, and swimming.  Here are some pictures and videos of the events in action!
