MSMS students compete in the Geography Bee

Last week students competed in the National Geographic Bee at Marshall Simonds.  Winners came from each grade level and competed against each other to become the school-wide Geography Bee Champion.

Questions were were asked on a variety of topics including historical, cultural and physical geography.  With Mr. Leslie moderating, students worked hard and demonstrated their vast geography knowledge.  The opening rounds dealt with U.S. geography and the later rounds included questions on world geography – from countries, to capitals, to rivers.

Eighth grader Liam Murphy came in first place, with up and comer Sami Ahmed representing the 6th grade coming in as runner-up.  Liam then took a written exam which has been submitted to National Geographic in Washington D.C.  If he qualifies, he will compete in the state finals and could ultimately compete in the nationals, with the chance to win a $50,000 college scholarship.  Congratulations to all who participated.
