Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – Next week we will finish up our unit on Density. The Density test will be on Thursday Dec. 15th.  Density lab reports are due on Monday Dec. 12th. We continue to work on MCAS review.

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson) – This week in Social Studies we learned about the rise and fall of the Ming dynasty. Next week, we will have a binder check on Monday and begin review for the chapter 12 test on China that will be on either Thursday or Friday.

Math: (Miss Mantia) – We are continuing our work with multi-step equations.  Students are learning how to use equations to model real-world situations such as pay per product plus base pay giving total pay.  Students are also learning how to solve these equations.  Multi-step equations include multiple steps, like terms, and distributive property.  There will be a quiz on Friday.

ELA: (Mrs. Kotarakos) – Next week we will wrap up our grammar unit on Functions of Nouns with a test at the end of the week.  A study guide will be handed out on Tuesday.  In addition, students will finish reading the book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry.  There will be a test on chapters 7-12 on Tuesday.  We will then review the components of a 5 paragraph essay to get students prepared to write their in-class Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry essay the following week.  Finally, students will receive the next independent reading book choice criteria and guidelines.  

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will be learning about some famous monuments in various Italian cities (pages 137 – 138) and will have a quiz on this cultural information before winter break.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Next week, students will discuss the culture in Chapter 6 of their textbooks. This culture section includes the role of Godparents in Hispanic families, a girl’s quinceañera, and the artwork of Las Meninas. After reviewing with Jeopardy, students will take their Chapter 6 test on Friday, 12/16.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – Spanish students will be reviewing Chapter 6 grammar in anticipation of the chapter listening and written tests scheduled for the end of the week.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – Students will be completing Chapter 6 with their final quiz, and oral assessment and chapter test.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) – Students will be beginning the unit on Mental Health by defining mental health and illness, and reviewing what they already know about mental health and any preconceived notions they may have.  A major goal of this unit is to reduce stigma around mental health issues.

Science: (Mr. Marino) – This week we finished a really fun lab on the density of fluids. A write up will be due on Monday, students had the opportunity to print it during the mornings this week and have lab partners to work with on getting me the final product Monday. As we get closer to the 3rd quarter my expectations are increasing in terms of responsibility and late work will eventually no longer be accepted.

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) – There will be a quiz on Chapter 12, Section 3 Monday.  The quiz will cover the rise of Genghis Khan and the Yuan Dynasty.  Students should review their presentation, movie and vocabulary notes/webs.  Next week, we will begin studying the Ming Dynasty and Chinese exploration.

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron) – The final draft of the Roll of Thunder essay is due on Monday. All of the directions, guidelines, and handouts can be found on the blog and Google Classroom.  Essays must be either printed or shared with me before class.  We will continue our look at subject/verb agreement next week along with a few other common grammatical errors I have seen in their writing. Finally, students must have a new independent reading book by Wednesday.  We will go over the project directions at the end of the week.

Math: (Mr. Peterson)-  This week, students finished chapter 3 in the textbook. Students worked on section 3.7 (manipulating variables) and 3.8 (ratios/rates).  The animal poster project is due on Monday.

French: (Mme Abrams)-  French students will be studying Lesson 18 and the verb forms of “to have” (“avoir”) along with idiomatic expressions using this verb. A quiz on the verb forms and new expressions will be scheduled later on in the week.

Latin: (Mr. Walsh) – Latin students are putting the finishing touches on Chapter 14 in our book. After a vocab quiz on Monday, we will begin the next chapter, starting with a study of the Celtic tribes that were encountered by the Romans in Great Britain.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) – Students will be beginning the unit on Mental Health by defining mental health and illness, and reviewing what they already know about mental health and any preconceived notions they may have.  A major goal of this unit is to reduce stigma around mental health issues

Science: (Ms. Byrne) – This week we focused on the density of fluids and our Density Liquid Lab.  The Density Liquid Lab Report is due on Tuesday 12/13/16.  Extra help is available after school (except Friday) for this lab.  Next week we will be studying buoyancy, in relation to density.  

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) –  Next week, we will continue reading and discussing the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.  We will review chapters 1-6 to prepare for a test on the first half of the novel.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) – Next week we will be learning how Japan’s mountains and islands have shaped history.  Students will understand how China’s culture played a major role in the development of Japanese culture.  

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) –  This week we completed our study on solving equations with variables on both sides.  We also covered problem solving with linear equations and formulas / functions.  We reviewed all of this material on Friday in class (Sections 3.4, 3.5, & 3.7), and students will be tested on Monday Dec. 12th.
