Science: (Mrs. Gorham) –  Next week the students will have their test on Heat and Temperature on Wednesday. We will be reviewing in class Monday and Tuesday. Thursday we will begin our unit on Force and Motion. We continue to work on JogNog.

Math: (Ms. Mantia) – There will be a quiz on Wednesday.  The quiz will be on the slope-intercept form of equations.  Students need to know what slope-intercept form is (y = mx +b), how to identify the slope and y-intercept from an equation, how to rewrite equations to slope-intercept form, and how to graph these equations.  Students will also know how these equations and graphs represent real-world situations such as pay per product sold plus base pay.

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson) – This week in social studies, students began learning about medieval Europe. Chapter 15 section 1 focuses on the early middle ages and features important people like Charles “the hammer” Martel and Charlemagne. Next Tuesday we will have a quiz on the first section.

ELA: (Mrs. Kotarakos) – Students should be reading their independent reading book and taking notes.  The book and notes are due on Monday, 3/13.  Next week we will continue our grammar unit on adjectives and adverbs.  The test will be the following week.  In literature, we will continue to discuss important themes related to our next novel, Fahrenheit 451.  Students will also start their in class research projects to prepare them for our novel.  Finally, there will be a vocabulary quiz on List 1 on Friday, 3/10.  

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students are learning how to conjugate the three irregular verbs on page 156: stare (to stay or to feel), dare (to give) and fare (to make or to do). After a quiz on the conjugation of these three verbs, students will be using the verbs in sentences. On Monday, March 6th, the beginning of National Foreign Language Week, Signora Hoerle will be coming to MSMS with some of her Burlington High School Italian students to do a presentation for our seventh and eighth grade Italian students.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Next week, students will take a Chapter 8 vocabulary quiz on Tuesday, 3/7. Following the quiz, students will review the conjugations and uses of the verbs SER and ESTAR, which was taught at the beginning of the year. Students should expect a review quiz on these verbs and their uses on Friday, 3/10.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – Spanish students will be working in Chapter 8 on vocabulary related to health. Students can expect a quiz on this vocabulary on Wednesday. We will also continue working on autobiography projects one day during the week.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – We will be working with new vocabulary for Chapter 8. Students should be studying these words each night.

Health : (Ms. Eovine) – Students will be starting the dating violence prevention unit,  .  Officer Sheppard will be working with the health classes during this unit. The focus the first week will be on types of abuses ands warning signs of an abusive relationship.  

Health: (Mrs. Fay) – Students will be finishing up the violence prevention unit with a discussion on the laws that pertain to sexting and  the impact of personal disclosure online or via phone.  Students will then complete a quiz on the unit.

Science: (Mr. Marino) – Students will have a test on the heat unit next week, after that we will start a new unit on forces and motion! 🙂

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron) –  The final draft of the sonnet is due on Monday.  Students just discussed fake news and how to discern real information from sponsored content.  We will begin a discussion on censorship on Monday as we prepare to read Fahrenheit 451.

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) – Students will begin studying the rise of Feudalism in medieval Europe.  We will also begin our projects on medieval Europe.  Students will be given the guidelines/expectations and rubric for this group project on Tuesday.   

Math: (Mr. Peterson) – This week, students finished section 4.8 (functions).  We began section 5.1 (slope-intercept form), and we will continue with section 5.2 and 5.3 next week.  We will have a quiz on these sections at the end of next week.

In recognition of National Foreign Language Week, Madame Price and her French students from BHS will be visiting on Wednesday to perform for French 8th grade French students!

Latin: (Mr. Walsh) – 8th grade students have begun to work on the next chapter in our book. With it comes a new tense, the pluperfect. Students should expect a vocab quiz early next week on our new words. Students should also continue working on their research projects which will be due at the end of the term.

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – The pronoun test has been pushed back until Monday.  Students have review exercises and all the notes from the unit are posted on google classroom.

Next week debate teams will be finalizing their constructive speech and preparing the rebuttal.  Students will debate later in the week.

Science: (Ms. Byrne) – This week students continued study of the 3 methods of Heat Transfer.  Next week we will have our test on the Heat/Temperature/Energy Unit on Wednesday.  Monday and Tuesday will be review of the unit for our test.  We will start our next unit on Forces and Motion on Thursday.

Social Studies (Mrs. Volpe)- Next week students will be learning about how medieval Europe’s governments weaknesses and their need for safety  led to the rise of feudalism.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – Next week students will go deeper into our study of the slope of a line.  We will look at direct variation and how that applies to real life.  We will also explore how to graph the equation of a line using slope-intercept form.

French: (Mme Pescatore) – After completing Lesson 20, students will review Unit 5 (Lessons 17-20) and take a test on these lessons.
