Science: (Mrs. Gorham) –  Next week students will receive their Speed, Velocity and Acceleration quizzes back. We continue to prepare for MCAS. We will focus on Open Response questions. The last JogNog quiz will be due on Monday May 15th.

Math: (Miss Mantia) – Students will take the Math MCAS on Tuesday, May 9th and Wednesday, May 10th.  In preparation for the MCAS, students have been working in their Finish Line workbooks.  Topics include linear equations, systems, geometry, exponents, scientific notation, and real numbers.  For homework, students should complete the practice test started in classes on Friday.

ELA: (Mrs. Kotarakos) – Next week will we wrap up our novel Fahrenheit 341 with a test on Part 3 on Thursday.  In grammar this week, students have been focusing on verbals, specifically participles, participial phrases, and dangling modifiers.  We will review this subject at the beginning of class on Friday and then students will take their quiz right after.  We will then move on to our last section of verbals which is infinitives.  Finally, students should be looking for their last independent reading book.  The novel must be a book that has been turned into a movie, as students will be reading the book and watching the movie in order to analyze the differences between the two and why a filmmaker would change the original story.  

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson) – This week in social studies, students finished chapter 15 and had a quiz on the final section. After using the last couple of days to review, playing jeopardy and bingo review games, we will be having a test on Monday on the entire chapter 15.

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will learn to use the irregular verb andare (to go) in order to express various ways to get to places in town.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Students will start the week organizing for a binder check, and then having the actual binder check afterwards. Next, the time has finally come! Students will begin to review for their cumulative 7th & 8th grade Spanish 1 Final Exam. Review will cover vocabulary, grammar, and culture from Chapters 1-9 in ¡Buen Viaje!

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – Next week Spanish students will be working on weather expressions in Chapter 9.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – We will be learning the Past/Preterite tense of AR verbs with a quiz scheduled after MCAS.

Health : (Ms. Eovine) –  Students will finish the male reproductive system. There will be a quiz on the first class meeting.  

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will be presenting their drug category presentations and discussing the impact of addiction on the user and on families and communities.

Science: (Mr. Marino) –  Students are reviewing the 3 seismic waves and topography.

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) – Students played the Black Death game today – it was a fun way to see first hand how fast the spread of the plague moved.  Students are having the Chapter 15 test on Monday; study guides were given out on Monday.  We will begin our study of the Renaissance on Tuesday!

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron) –  We are ready for our debates! Students turned in the final draft of their speeches on Friday. We will begin the debates on Thursday, once MCAS is over.  Students should be practicing their speeches over the weekend and finishing their independent reading books. We will begin the diversity project next week.

Math: (Mr. Peterson) –  Students have been preparing for the math MCAS for the past two weeks.  The math MCAS will take place on Tuesday, May 9th, and Wednesday, May 10th.

Latin: (Mr. Walsh) – Students are working through the final story in chapter 17. Next comes chapter 18, where we will examine the 4th and 5th declensions. Students should expect a vocab quiz mid to late next week.

Science: (Ms. Byrne) –  This week we are finishing our topic of Newton’s three Laws of Motions, with a test on Friday.  Next week we will do more work on Motion and Force, with some MCAS preparation.

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) –  Next week students will be reading and discussing part 3 of Fahrenheit 451.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – We are studying a variety of topics included in the Common Core in preparation for MCAS exams, which will be given May 9 – 10.  Topics include, but are not limited to, scientific notation, exponents, negative exponents, proportions, Pythagorean Theorem, solving systems of linear equations, functions, slope, rate of change, slope-intercept, volume, transformations, square and cube roots, scatter plots, rational/irrational numbers, and reading graphs.

French: (Mme Pescatore) – Students will complete their study of Lesson 21 with a quiz. Then they will begin Lesson 22 where they will learn to use the irregular verb aller in order to express going to various places in town.
