Mid Term Reports:

All students will receive Mid Term Progress Reports on next Friday, October 6th.  The reports will include English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and grade 7 and 8 Foreign Language and Developmental Reading.

Community Forums:

All parents are invited to attend community conversations on the proposal related to high school start times.  The School Committee is discussing a proposal to begin high school earlier during the 2018-2019 school year.  These conversations are scheduled for Tuesday, October 3rd and Thursday, October 5th at 8:30am and 7:00pm.  The October 3rd meetings will be in the Francis Wyman Auditorium.  The October 5th meetings will be in the High School Auditorium.

A Message from PAC (Burlington Parent Advisory Council):

The Special Education Department and Burlington SEPAC invite parents and caregivers to a meet-and-greet on October 4th from 6:45 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Grandview Farm/Marion Tavern’s Conference Room (2nd floor).  Meet with SEPAC co-chairs and Special Education staff from each school.  Topics will include the array of special education programming and how special education is being implemented into the district.  Questions, please contact burlingtonspedpac@gmail.com.  We hope to see you there!

A Message from People Helping People:

Help support the People Helping People Food Pantry by purchasing a pumpkin at the 5th Annual People Helping People Pumpkin Patch from October 1st – 31st.  The pumpkin patch is located at St. Mark’s Church, 10 St. Mark Road in Burlington.  The patch is open Monday – Friday from 12pm – 6 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am-6pm.  100% of the profits benefits People Helping People and the Food Pantry.

Science: (Mrs. Gorham)-  Next week the students will take a quiz on the Periodic Table of Elements. There will also be a Periodic Table Project assigned and due Friday October 6th. We will also discuss subatomic particles and discuss the difference between atoms and elements.

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson)-  This week in social studies, students took their chapter 11 section 2 quiz on Islamic empires. To review, we played an online quiz game called Quizizz that tested their knowledge and their speed. Next week, we will begin the final section of the chapter on Islam, “Muslim ways of Life”.

Math: (Miss Mantia) –  We are continuing our review of integer operations.  This includes adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and distributing with positive and negative numbers.  Students are also learning how to write equations that model real-world situations. Examples include adding debt and determining rates with losses.  There will be a quiz on Friday. Students will receive a study guide with helpful hints and practice problems.

ELA: (Mrs. Kotarakos) –  Next week we will wrap up our short story unit with a test on Tuesday.  There will be a vocabulary quiz on Friday on the second list of words from this unit.  In grammar, we will continue our study of Nouns.  Lastly, students received their first book report guidelines and rubric this week.  They should be reading their fiction independent novel and taking 2 column-notes, which will help them when they start to write their book analysis.

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will be completing their study of how -ere verb expressions are used in sentences. Their quiz will be on Thursday, October 5th.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Next week, students will take their Review Packet #2 quiz on Tuesday, 10/3. Following the quiz, students will review their last packet of 7th grade vocabulary with various review games. A quiz on this last section of words will be on Friday, 10/6.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) Spanish students will be practicing answering questions in the target language in order to improve proficiency and fluency. They will be preparing for an oral interview, a one to one Q & A with la profesora.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – We are almost finished with our 7th grade review. Next week we will be focusing on pp.7-9 of the review vocabulary as well as verbs.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –   Students are continuing to work on their “Health President” projects with the goal of presenting to the class their plan for making the nation healthier.

ELA: (Mr. Balsamo) – This week we completed our Short Stories Test, reviewed writing for the Banned Books project, and discussed the quiz next Friday. The quiz will cover the topic of The Five Functions of Nouns.  

Science: ( Follow @MrMarinoScience)- We just started learning about the structure of an atom, and the sub-atomic particles that make it up. Next week students have a project due on the atom. We will also have a quiz too! 🙂

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) –  This week, we completed our 11.2 and will be having a quiz on Wednesday, October 4.  We will review in class on Tuesday together.  Students should use their presentation and vocabulary notes to help them prepare.  On Thursday, we will begin our final section of “Muslim Way’s of Life”.

Math: (Mr. Peterson) –   This week, students worked on section 2.5 ( multiplying with variables) and 2.6 (distributive property).  We will have a quiz on these topics next week.  Following the quiz, we will begin working in the Big Ideas textbook.  

Science: (Mr. Marino) – Science is still up in the air, until I get confirmation that Steven Tyler is fully recovered from his recent seizure:)

Science: (Ms. Byrne) –  This week we continued our study of the 3 main states of matter (solid, liquids and gases) at the molecular level.  The students had a quiz on Thursday, 9/28.  Next week, we will be discussing and doing labs pertaining to phase changes.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe)-  Next Wednesday we will be having a test on chapter 11, and we will  begin our lessons on China.  We will be learning how Chinese rulers brought peace, order, and growth to China.  Students will compare and contrast the major ideas within the religions of Buddhism and Confucianism.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – Students are finishing up their Integers Review and will be tested on Monday.  After that we will start in our new Big Ideas Math Book! The first chapter is on equations.

French: (Mme Pescatore) – Students will begin working in Lesson 16 and will be learning how to ask and answer questions using the interrogative expressions on page 120.
