Dear Parents,

Shawsheen Valley Technical High School (100 Cook Street, Billerica, MA) is holding its Community Open House on November 5, 2017 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.  For more information please call 878-671-3611.

Essex Technical High School (565 Maple Street, Hathorne (Danvers), MA) is holding its Open House on November 18, 2017 from 9:00am-12:00pm.  For more information please call 978-304-4705 or visit their website www.essextech.net.

Bailey’s School Pictures will be here on November 28th and November 29th for student portraits.  More information will be given closer to the date.

Parent conferences will be held on Tuesday, November 7th in the evening and Thursday, November 9th during the day.  You should have received notification from your student’s teacher regarding a time.

Please add to your conference appointment form:  Mrs. Tate, our 6-8 grade math specialist will be available during the day on Thursday, November 9 for parent conferences.  If your child attends her class during the week and you would like to meet to discuss your child’s progress, please email her at tate@bpsk12.org to schedule a time that is convenient for you.  If you are unable to attend a conference during the day please email her to set up a time for a phone conference.

If your child has a documented Life Threatening Allergy, please send in your child’s EpiPen and doctor’s order now.  We require an EpiPen 2-Pak and MD signed allergy action plan.  Doctor orders may be faxed to 781-505-4980. Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – Next week the students will focus on atomic bonds (covalent and ionic bonds) and compounds. Jog nog is due on Wednesday. Students have received their Matter test back on Friday.

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson) – This week in social studies, we finished chapter 12 section 2 which focused on Chinese inventions and culture. Next week, we will be having a quiz on section 2 on Monday and beginning section 3, “The Mongols in China”.

ELA: (Ms. Chau) – Students will continue reading some short stories, “The Woman in the Snow” and “The Dinner Party” from their Hair Raising Tales Unit.  They will be given a quiz on Tuesday that includes vocabulary from these stories. For grammar, we will cover the present and past tense of verbs as well as main and helping verbs.

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will learn how to give their address in Italian. They will also begin learning how to use the last regular group of verbs in Italian that end in -ire (pages 115 – 120).

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Students will discuss the importance of Día de los Muertos at the beginning of the week, and compare and contrast the holiday to Halloween. They will also watch a cultural video showcasing Mexico’s traditions during the holiday. Following the video, students will explore the legend of La Llorona.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) –  Spanish students will take a quiz on the verb TENER, then prepare and present an oral talk on their (or a fictional) family. During the week, we will also talk about Día de los Muertos.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – We are working on our Family Tree Projects and conjugating the verb TENER.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will work on finishing up the Digital Moral Compass situations and will present 2 situations to the class for discussion.

ELA: (Mr. Balsamo) – This week in ELA, we reviewed commas, semicolons, literature terms, and essay writing. On Thursday, we took a quiz on these terms. Next week, we will begin our first class novel – Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.

Science: (Follow @MrMarinoScience) – Students will be working on hands on labs in States of matter, some of which will be spooky!! We have a big quiz towards the end of the week as well.

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) –  This week, students discussed the accomplishments and leaders of the Sui and Tang Dynasties.  We will continue our study of medieval China with Confucianism and Buddhism next week.  Students should expect a quiz towards the end of next week.  

Math: (Mr. Peterson) –  This week, students finished chapter 1 from the Big Ideas Textbook.  We started chapter 2 (geometry).  Some topics in the geometry chapter include translations, reflections, rotations, similar triangles, and dilations.

Science: (Ms. Byrne) –  This week we started types of chemical bonding and talked about energy levels in atoms.  We also had a quiz on Atomic Structure/The Periodic Table on Friday.  We will continue with Chemical bonding and Lewis Dot Diagrams next week.  Looking forward to a cool Oobleck lab on Halloween!

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) –   Next week we will be learning about Zheng He’s travels and how they led to the creation of Chinese colonies throughout Southeast Asia.  We will also be having a quiz on the Ming Dynasty.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – We are studying translations, reflections, and rotations in geometry.  Next week we will look at dilations and similar figures.  

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – We will review the literature unit on Hair Raising Tales to prepare for a test on Thursday.

Next week we will also continue the grammar unit on nouns.

French: (Mme Pescatore) – Students will be learning vocabulary that names personal possessions (pages 142 – 143). There will be a quiz by the end of the week.
