Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – Next week the students will finish up their unit on Matter and Chemistry. We will focus on physical and chemical properties, changes and reactions. There will be a quiz on Friday. We continue to work on Jognog.

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson) – This week we continued learning about the Mongol Empire and their unbelievable conquest starting in China and ending in Eastern Europe. Wednesday will serve as a review of the section and, after the long weekend, we will have a quiz on section 3.

ELA: (Ms. Chau) – For next week, the students will learn about the historical times in which the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry was set in. They will also begin reading Chapter 1 of the book and work on their reading logs. As for grammar, we will wrap up the unit on verbs with a test next week and begin our next unit on prepositions.

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will be learning a second group of -ire verbs that take -isc (pages 121 – 123) and can expect a quiz on these verbs near the end of the week.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Next week, students will be reviewing family member vocabulary from Chapter 6 in their textbook with various activities and exercises. Students will take a quiz on this vocabulary on Friday, 11/17.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – Spanish students will be working in Chapter 6, studying vocabulary of the house. A quiz is likely by the end of the week.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – Student will have a quiz on ORDINAL NUMBERS and TENER + QUE + INFINITIVO on Wednesday. Then we will begin working on possessive pronouns.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will be finishing up the unit on cyberbullying by watching a video depicting a cyberbullying scenario and analyzing the different roles and opportunities for positive action  to stop the online bullying.

ELA: (Mr. Balsamo) – This week in ELA, we read chpt. 3 in Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry and reviewed grammar using noredink.com. Students should have their 35 question review (on noredink.com) done by Monday. Also, students should be up to page 102 in Roll of Thunder for Monday. Next week, we will continue with Roll of Thunder, grammar skills, and essay writing.   

Science: (Follow @MrMarinoScience) – Students have completed the unit on mixtures and solutions. Next week students will be introduced to a new unit and new seats and new lab partners. It was nice to meet the parents and I look forward to a new term! 🙂

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) –  Next week, students will have a quiz on Wednesday, November 15th.  The quiz will cover Chapter 12, Section 2 on China’s Inventions and Culture under the Tang and Song Dynasty.  We will also begin our study of the Mongols and their amazing conquest of China.  

Math: (Mr. Peterson) – This week, students finished sections 2.5 (similar figures) and 2.7 (dilations).  Next week, we will have a test on chapter 2 (geometry).

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) –  Student will have a quiz on ORDINAL NUMBERS and TENER + QUE + INFINITIVO on Tuesday. Then we will begin working on possessive pronouns.

French: (Mme Abrams) – In recognition of Veteran’s Day, we will watch a video showing Normandy and discuss a bit of history including the Franco-American cooperative efforts during WWII. We will continue learning Lesson 17 vocabulary and locative expressions (page 144) and students will be able to describe their rooms.

Latin: (Mr. Walsh) – Latin students will be continuing to read through chapter 4 and will be discussing the new vocabulary and grammar forms which are introduced in it, including infinitive verbs and accusative plural forms. Both are review from last year.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) – Students will be finishing up the unit on cyberbullying by watching a video depicting a cyberbullying scenario and analyzing the different roles and opportunities for positive action  to stop the online bullying.

Science: (Ms. Byrne) –  This week we worked on the Law of Conservation of Mass and physical/chemical properties and changes of matter.  Next week we will work on many aspects of chemical reactions.  Ask your child about how building sandwiches relates to chemical reactions!

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) –   Next week we will be reviewing for our chapter test on China. Students should review their two- column notes, vocabulary, readings, and powerpoint notes.

Test will be on Tuesday, November 14th.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – Students will be beginning Chapter 3 in the Big Ideas Math book.  This chapter covers parallel lines & transversals, angles of triangles, angles of polygons, and using similar triangles.

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – Students will continue to read the play Twelve Angry Men in class and discuss as we read.  We will also begin a new grammar unit on verbs.

French: (Mme Pescatore) – Students will be using vocabulary pertaining to their room as well as several prepositions used to tell the location of an object (pages 144 – 146). They can expect a quiz on the new vocabulary by the end of the week.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – Spanish students will be working in Chapter 6, studying vocabulary of the house. A quiz is likely by the end of the week.
