Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – Next week the students will have a Density quiz on Wednesday. The quiz will be on the density formulas: D=M/V,  V=M/D,  M=VxD.  I will also be assigning a lab report on Density of Liquids. Students will need to bring a small amount of liquid (students/groups choice) to be calculated and layered for data.

ELA: (Ms. Chau) – Before the Thanksgiving break, students were given a book report contract for their second book report. At the time, we only discussed the format for this assignment and to give students the opportunity to research their books. The official due date for this project is January 31. In regards to literature, we’ll be reading Chapters 4 and 5 of Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry.  After the class has completed each chapter, the students will be taking a mini-quiz for it to test their understanding of the text. As for grammar, we’ll go over subordinating conjunctions and interjections and hopefully wrap up this unit by next week.

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will be learning how to use the contractions for “in the” with nouns and how to express “in” with cities and countries (pages 132 – 134). Their quiz on vocabulary pertaining to furniture and rooms in a house will be on Tuesday, December 5th.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Next week, students will be introduced to the verb TENER. After working with the verb, students will take a quiz on TENER plus their Chapter 6, Words 2 Vocabulary on Thursday, 12/7. Following the quiz, students will learn how to express ‘’have to’’ and ‘’going to’’ do something with verb expressions.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – Spanish students will be quizzed on TENER QUE and IR A + infinitive early in the week.  We will then start learning the Spanish possessive adjectives.  Extra credit holiday cards are due Tuesday, December 5.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – We will be reviewing for our Chapter 6 Oral Quiz and Written Test.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students are beginning the unit on stress and its impact on our health. We will learn about the fight or flight response, the tend or befriend response, and relaxation techniques that can help reduce everyday stress.

ELA: (Mr. Balsamo) – This week, we continued reading Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry and reviewed several grammar skills. Next week,  we will have a quiz on Wednesday and start the rough draft for our first Roll of Thunder essay.  

Science: (Follow @MrMarinoScience) – This week students evaluate the different properties of liquids. Students will determine the mass and volume of liquids so that they can determine the density of them. We will also observe how liquids can sink or float with in other liquids.

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) – Next week, we will conclude our study of medieval China with the Ming Dynasty  Students will discuss the fall of the Mongol Empire and the rise of a new dynasty.  Students should expect a quiz at the end of the week on Chapter 12, Section 4 and should review their homework and vocabulary notes to help them prepare.  

Math: (Mr. Peterson) –  This week, students finished section 4.1 (table of values) and we began working on graphing lines using x-y intercepts.  Next week, we will continue working on graphing lines (using slope-intercept form).

Latin: (Mr. Walsh) – Students should expect a short comprehension quiz at the end of next week on the events of chapter 4 before we move on to chapter 5 and study the rooms of a typical upper class Roman house.

Science: (Ms. Byrne) –  This week we finished up our Chemistry Unit with Acids and Bases.  Our Chemistry Test will be on Tuesday 12/5/17; Study Guides were handed out on 12/1/17.  Next week we will start exploring what density means, starting with density of solids.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) –   Next week we will continue our studies on Japan. Students will understand the cause and effects of the shoguns loss of power, and how Japan broke into warring kingdoms run by rulers known as Daimyo.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – We are finishing Chapter 3 on angles and triangles.  Students will be tested next week over the concepts covered, including parallel lines cut by a transversal, angles of triangles, angles of polygons, and using similar triangles.

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – We finished reading the play “Twelve Angry Men” and have reviewed and discussed all three acts of the play.  There will be a test Monday on the play.  Students have received study questions to help prepare them for the test.  Students will have the opportunity to watch the movie “Twelve Angry Men” next week after the test.  I feel that literature in film is very important, especially when the film portrays the literature so well, as does the 1957 version which we will view.

Next week students will also be tested on the functions of nouns (direct objects, indirect objects, predicate nouns, and object of the prepositions, all review).
