February 16, 2018

Math: (Miss Mantia) – Students will learn who to work with equations in slope-intercept form.  Students will learn how slope-intercept form equations model real-world situations such as buying one product at a certain price and multiple products at a different price.  Students will learn how to graph these equations.  Students will also learn how to identify the slope and y-intercept and relate slope to rate of change (money per product) and y-intercept to a starting or fixed amount.  There will be a quiz on Friday.

Science: (Mrs. Gorham)–  After vacation the students will begin their unit on the Forms of Energy. We will review Kinetic, Potential and Heat. Students will be introduced to Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical, and Electromagnetic. We continue to work on Jognog.

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson) – This week in social studies students continued section 2 “Feudalism”. After the vacation we will have a quiz on the section and continue learning about medieval Europe.

ELA: (Ms. Chau) – Students will be starting their Debate unit when they return from vacation. They will also resume their grammar unit on pronouns.

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – After vacation students will have a quiz on verb expressions used in sentences which are found on pages 153 – 158. They will then learn how to use contractions that express “to the” on pages 160 -162. Buone vacanze!

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – After vacation, students will continue to work with Chapter 8 vocabulary about minor illnesses and visiting the doctor’s office.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) –  After vacation, Spanish students will be reviewing Chapter 7 material for the listening and written chapter tests. Buenas vacaciones.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – ¡Feliz vacaciones! The week after break, we will be having our Chapter 7 Oral Quiz and Chapter Test.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students are continuing the unit on alcohol after vacation.  We will be finishing up learning about alcohol poisoning and alcohol addiction. Students will also be discussing the influences that lead an individual to drink or not to drink alcohol.

Health: (Ms. Eovine) – Students will be analyzing alcohol Ads and making a counter Ad telling people the truth about alcohol.  Students will be working in small groups to design the Ad.

ELA: (Mr. Balsamo) – We continued working on Shakespearean Sonnets with a in-class essay on Sonnets 116 & 18. Students will be submitting their own Shakespearean Sonnets on Friday, March 2.   

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) –  After vacation, we will continue our unit on medieval Europe.  Students will be studying feudalism and the emergence of new kingdoms.  We will read about the rise of cities and towns and the roles of vassals and knights.  

Science: (@MrMrMarinoScience) –  Students have a unit on forms of energy when we return from vacation. They will observe through labs and demos how energy can transform from one type to another. If we have time I would love for them to make their own”Rube Goldberg Machine”  Click for an example an 8th grader made Example of a Rube Goldberg Machine HAPPY VACATION!

Math: (Mr. Peterson) – This week, students finished chapter 5 (systems).  After vacation, we will work on chapter 6 (functions).

Latin: (Mr. Walsh) – After vacation, students will continue to work on the passive in Chapter 6, and will begin to focus more on preparing for the National Latin Exam, scheduled for March 15. (Beware the Ides of March)

Science: (Ms. Byrne) – This week we are wrapping up our unit on Heat and Energy, covering Specific Heat.  After vacation, we will test out on our Heat and Energy Unit (Tuesday 2/27), and begin our Waves Subunit.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) –  Next week we will continue our lessons on how the Catholic Church played an important role in medieval Europe and how it helped to shape the European culture.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – We are finishing our unit on solving systems of linear equations.  After the break we will begin the unit on Functions, including comparing linear & nonlinear functions along with analyzing & sketching graphs.

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – After vacation, students will be introduced to the debate unit.  Classes will choose topics which they find interesting and invested in researching.  Students will be working in teams, so it is important that they work together.

Students should be reading their independent novel over vacation.

French: (Mme Pescatore) – After vacation students will begin an autobiography project which they will be writing in class. At home they will be locating pictures to go with the sentences for their project. Bonnes vacances!
