Math: (Miss Mantia) – We will go into the topics of Chapter 10 in more detail next week.  Students already know the basics of exponents, as well as the various properties of exponents, but we will review multiplying bases, power to a power, division of bases, and negative exponents.  There will be a quiz after the Science MCAS.  

Science: (Mrs. Gorham)–  Next week we will be taking the Science MCAS. Mcas will be held on Wednesday and Thursday of next week. We will be discussing Newton’s Laws after MCAS.

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson) – This week in social studies, students started reading chapter 17 which focuses on the Renaissance and Catholic Reformation. We finished section 1 with a quiz and will begin section 2 “New Ideas and Art” on Monday. The binder check, 15-5 quiz, and chapter 15 test were all given back this week as well.

ELA: (Ms. Chau) – For next week, students will continue reading Fahrenheit 451 in class. Depending on how far we get in the reading, I’m anticipating of having a F451 Part I test on Friday May 17.  We will also be working on adverbs and demonstrative/comparative adverbs in grammar. Students should also be reading their book report books at home. The assignment for that project is due June 6.

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will continue to use the irregular verb “to go” in various activities. There will be a quiz on the conjugation of the verb andare on page 178 and the expressions using the verb on page 179 on Tuesday, May 15th.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Next week, students will complete Chapter 9! They will review direct object pronouns in Spanish, as well as discuss the culture related to this chapter. Students and I have discussed their final exam date! It will be on Friday, 5/25, with an after school extra help session on Thursday, 5/24. Plan ahead 🙂

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) –  Next week, Spanish students will be working with the vocabulary of Palabras 2, winter weather and sports.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – We will begin learning Chapter 9 vocabulary next week.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) – Students will finish up the dating violence prevention by discussing the legal and social implications of sexting.  Students will also watch a local documentary about dating violence prevention, followed by a quiz on the unit.

Health: (Ms. Eovine) – Students will be finishing the unit on male and female reproductive systems.  This week’s focus will be on the functions and anatomy of the male reproductive system.  A test will be given the second class meeting of the week.

ELA: (Mr. Balsamo)This week in ELA, students prepared for next week’s Debate presentations, reviewed grammar (Compound-Complex sentences, Predicate Nominatives, Direct and Indirect Objects), and analyzed the short story, “Lab Rats.” Debate presentations will begin on Monday and should be at least three minutes in length with reputable sources cited.

Science: (Follow @MrMarinoScience) – Science MCAS is next week! Good luck to all of the 8th graders, I know you will do well! Get plenty of rest and have a good breakfast. Afterwards we will finish our unit on motion and forces and move into our last unit on pressure.

Social Studies (Mrs. DiSipio):   Students will continue their study of the Renaissance into Northern Europe and England.  We will be working on primary source readings and vocabulary next week and students should anticipate a quiz on the material towards the end of the week.

Math: (Mr. Peterson) –  This week, student took the Math MCAS on Wed. and Thurs.  We prepared very hard for the MCAS, and students did a nice job on it.  Next week, we will continue working in the Big Ideas textbook on chap 8 (volume) and chap 9 (data tables).

Latin: (Mr. Walsh) – Latin students will be finishing their reading of chapter 8 before discussing the new grammar forms within the chapter. After MCAS finishes, we will have a brief quiz on grammar.

Science: (Ms. Byrne) – Next week we will finish our study of Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion and test out.  The Science MCAS test will be Wednesday (5/16) and Thursday (5/17) of next week.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) –  Next week students will learn how Martin Luther broke with the pope and started Protestantism, which political leaders often supported.  They will also understand how John Calvin’s ideas spread across Europe to North America.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – We will begin our unit on polynomials and factoring next week.  This will include knowledge of terminology, performing operations with polynomials, and using the FOIL method to multiply two binomials.

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – Next week we will continue to read and discuss Fahrenheit 451.  Classes will review part 1 to prepare for the test later next week. It is extremely important that students keep up with the assigned reading.

We will also finish the grammar unit on Verbals and begin reviewing for a test on the unit.

French: (Mme Pescatore) – Students will be learning vocabulary pertaining to places in town and how to get there (page 204). There will be a quiz on the verb aller (page 200), contractions (page 202) and the vocabulary (page 204) on Friday, May 18th.
