SOCIAL STUDIES: (Ms. Ellis A-13) After Thanksgiving break we will continue to work on note taking skills. Argentina, Venezuela and Colombia will be our main focus. There may be a short quiz on Brazil and Argentina before moving on to Venezuela. We will also focus on how each country has developed their economic activities based on their land and climate, a basic history of each, and parts of their culture such as language, religion and government.

Reading: (A-13) Students have turned in and presented their extension activities for Among the Hidden. I am so impressed with their creativity! Next we will be reading Among the Impostors. This sequel follows Luke on his courageous journey.


LANGUAGE ARTS: (Sullivan A-15) We continue to discuss the various story elements of folk tales and fairy tales. Students will be learning how to identify the simple subject in a sentence. We will also be learning about possessive and plural nouns.

Reading (A-15) We are almost done with the novel Holes. Students will be watching the video adaptation of the novel, and we will be comparing and contrasting the two.


MATH: (Mrs. MacCurtain A-14) Students will continue in Chapter 3, “Data Statistics.” They will be learning about data distribution, bell curves, rate of change, venn diagrams and independent and dependent variables.  There will be a large Chapter 3 test on all of the data topics we have been learning about.

Reading (A-14) Students have started reading Max The Mighty. This is the sequel to Freak The Mighty. They really enjoyed the movie!


SCIENCE: (Mrs. Richardson D-103)When the students return from vacation, we will wrap up “Heat Transfer.”  We will conduct our popcorn demo on Monday!  Again, please feel free to contact me with any concerns about allergies, etc.  The students will also be learning about the layers of the atmosphere, lithosphere, and hydrosphere.  Your child will have a greater understanding about how heat transfer applies to the interior of the Earth.  This will lead to the topic of, “global and local winds.”

Reading: (D-103)  We continue to read Freak the Mighty.  We will be completing character sketches and continue to review vocabulary throughout each chapter.

HEALTH: Ms. Eovine  Students will begin the unit on bullying.  The focus the first week will be on types of bullying, the role of the bystander, and ways to handle bullying.  Students will be watching some videos, and role playing to practice what they learned in class.
