SOCIAL STUDIES: (Ms. Ellis A-13) Today students completed the first half of their South America test. On Monday they will continue onto the essay portion of the test. We will then begin our next continent unit- Europe! Europe will be studied by region. Our introduction will include an overview of the regions and physical features of the continent. We will then focus on western Europe. Highlighted countries in this unit are the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, and Germany. We will look at how the land, climate and resources have shaped each country’s economy and population density patterns. Cultural information such as language, government and history will also be examined. Current events will be also be included.

Reading: (A-13) We will continue reading Among the Imposters.

LANGUAGE ARTS: (Sullivan A-15) Students will have a grammar test on Monday, December 15th. All students received a study guide in class to prepare them for the test. Non-fiction book reports are due Friday, December 19th. Students will be expected to give a short oral presentation on their book. Students should also have a visual component, either a slide show presentation or poster, to help facilitate their discussion. All students will receive a study guide before winter vacation to help them prepare for the ELA mid-year exam.

Reading (A-15) Students are working on an end of the novel assignment for Holes using their iPads. These creative assignments include videos, movie trailers, and alphabet iBooks.

MATH: (Mrs. MacCurtain A-14) Students have just completed Chapter 3 and will now be moving onto Chapter 4, “ Number Patterns and Fractions.” Before we start this chapter, I will be teaching them about the Divisibility rules and there will be a short quiz on them. We will then be learning about prime and composite numbers, prime factorization and factors.  There are many fun activities that will help them learn these concepts. They will also be receiving a mid year study guide before vacation to help them to prepare for the math mid year exam.

Reading (A-14) Students will continue reading Max The Mighty. Another five chapter quiz will be given.

SCIENCE: (Mrs. Richardson D-103) Next week we will continue our study of layers of the earth.  The students have identified the characteristics for each layer and they have created models to help better understand these topics.  Prior to vacation, we will also revisit the topic of heat and the atmosphere.  We will review global and local winds.  Your child will review when we return from holiday break for the mid year assessment.  Each student will bring home a study guide/outline to go over.

Reading: (D-103)  We continue to read, Freak the Mighty.  We will be breaking apart different events in the novel.  There will be class discussion and the students will create graphic organizers.

HEALTH: Ms. Eovine –  Students will be working on Public Service Announcements that deal with bullying.  They will be working in small groups and have an option of using either the program ”Explain Everything”, Google Presentation”, or “imovie”.  They will present them to the class the second class meeting of the week. Students will be watching a video on types of bullying and have a bullying assessment using KAHOOT ( A Program on the ipad).
