SOCIAL STUDIES: (Ms. Ellis A-13) We just finished our unit on the Middle East. Students handed in their HDI projects on Monday, May 4th. We are now studying Asia and will focus on the culture, location, climate, and physical features.

Reading: (A-13) Students are finishing the novel Freak the Mighty. We have been discussing plot, character development, and theme.

LANGUAGE ARTS: (Mrs. Sullivan A-15) It was wonderful to see so many students and parents at Open House! We have finished the novel Where the Red Fern Grows, and we have started our  poetry unit. Students will be analyzing poetry in class. We will be focusing on speaker, mood, and figurative language. Students will write their own poetry focusing on these poetic devices. Students will have a quiz on adverbs on Monday, May 11th. We will begin discussing prepositions and how to use them properly in our writing.

Reading: (A-15) Students continue to read the novel City of Ember. We have been discussing vocabulary, character traits, and setting.

MATH: (Mrs. MacCurtain A-14) Students have finished Chapter 7 and have also completed their Stock Market Projects.  Students will now be learning in Chapter 8 “Ratios and Proportions.” Students will start the chapter with ratios and then move to unit rates and proportions. There will be a quiz on these concepts.  

Reading (A-14) Students will continue to read Among the Imposters.  They are enjoying the book.

SCIENCE: (Mrs. Richardson D-103) We are now working on the topic of “Topography.”  Students will be learning about contour lines, elevation, and they will be able to create a topographic map of their own.  We will utilize geoboxes at lab stations in order to demonstrate 3D models of an island.  The students will then create a flat representation of their model.  Map skills will be our focus during the next couple of weeks.  REMINDER:  A permission slip will be going home next week for our field trip to the Christa McAuliffe Center at Framingham State in June!!  More details to follow.

Reading: (D-103) We continue to read Hoot.   Mrs. Gover has been working with the students and have done a wonderful job with utilizing Light Sail.  They are working at their own pace, completing short answer questions and emphasizing vocabulary.
