SOCIAL STUDIES: (Ms. Ellis A-13) Next week we will be wrapping up our unit on Asia and beginning our study of Sub-Saharan Africa. We will look at an overview of the land and water, and then move on to specific countries. Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya are among those that will be highlighted. We will also discuss European colonization of this area. The students will not be having a social studies final.

Reading: (A-13) Students will continue reading Max the Mighty. We will continue to focus on character traits, theme, and plot development.

LANGUAGE ARTS: (Mrs. Sullivan A-15) Students have a four paragraph expository essay due Monday, June 8th. This essay should explain a  process using details and transition words. Students will be reading a variety of short stories in class. We will be reading the play Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the last week of school. We will focus on elements of a play and compare and contrast the movie with the play. We will have a “chocolate day” on Friday, June 19th. Students will enjoy an ice cream sundae party while watching the movie.

Reading: (A-15) We are finishing the novel The City of Ember. We will focus on theme and vocabulary. Students will also compare and contrast the movie with the novel.

MATH: (Mrs. MacCurtain A-14) Students will be continuing with geometry over the next two weeks. They will be learning about volume, surface area, and area of triangles, trapezoids and parallelograms. They will also be learning about circles.  There will be at least one more quiz on geometry topics. Have a great summer!

Reading (A-14) Students have finished reading Among the Imposters. They are eager to read the next book in the series, Among the Betrayed.

SCIENCE: (Mrs. Richardson D-103) We had a great time at the McAuliffe Center!  The students did a nice job completing their tasks and worked cooperatively.  It was a successful mission to Mars!  Next week the students will have a topography test.  A study guide has been given and should be completed by Tuesday. We will review during classtime.  Our next topic will be moon phases, seasons and eclipses.  The students will not be having the science final and textbooks will be collected.  Have a wonderful summer vacation!

Reading: (D-103) We will be discussing the conclusion of Hoot and watching the movie.  Students will compare similarities and differences of both.
