December 23, 2014

Science: (Mrs. Pratt) – The Science Mid-Year Assessment is scheduled for Thursday, January 8th.  Students have been provided a study guide to help guide their studying.  Students have been encouraged to also use their science portfolios and look at past assignments and tests and quizzes.  My blog is a good resource as well; there are great videos and animations for the students to use.  When we return from the Holiday break, we will spend the three days prior to the Mid-Year Assessment preparing and reviewing in class.  After the Mid-Year Assessment, we will begin a new unit on Photosynthesis and Respiration.  Have a wonderful vacation!  See you all next year in 2015!

Math: (Mrs. Forrest)-   All students have been given the Study Guide for the Math Mid-Year Assessment and the Study Guide Assignment .  The Study Guide Assignment is due on Monday, January 5, 2015 and the exam is on Monday, January 12, 2015.  The exam will cover Chapters 1 – 4 in their math books.  All of this information will be on my blog.  After vacation, students will review for the exam and continue exploring fractions and their applications.  Have a wonderful vacation and see you in 2015!

Language Arts:  (Mrs. Kotarakos) – In grammar, students have been working on personal pronouns.  When we return from vacation, we will begin indefinite pronouns.  Also after vacation we will also be starting the novel, The Witch of Blackbird Pond.  There will be vocabulary, questions, and open responses associated with the reading.  The ELA Semester Assessment will be given on WEDNESDAY, 1/7/15 – study guides have been distributed in class.  Our next project is a movie review.  The due date has been changed from Wednesday, 1/14 to Wednesday, 1/21.  Details and the format were given out in class yesterday.  Happy holidays to everyone!

Social Studies: (Mrs. O’Connell) – The Social Studies mid year assessment is scheduled for Friday, January 9th. Study guides have been distributed as well as all materials used (tests, quizzes, maps, handouts, etc.) from the beginning of the school year to the present to assist students in their preparation for this exam. We will be reviewing all topics in class until the assessment is given. Students are strongly encouraged to prepare by studying chapters in small increments over the winter break rather than waiting until just before exams are administered. The exam will cover chapters 1, 2, and 3.

Spanish (Sra. Barkley)- Happy Holidays!

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – When students return from winter break, they will begin to tell time in Spanish. With various class activities and review games, students will prepare for a quiz on telling time scheduled for Friday, 1/9. The following week, students will complete a practice test and play Jeopardy with all of the Chapter 2 content. 7C will take their Chapter 2 test on Wednesday, 1/14 and 7A & 7B will take their Chapter 2 test on Thursday, 1/15. On Friday 1/16, students will be introduced to Chapter 3 vocabulary.

Spanish (Sra. Abrams) – In early January Spanish students will be learning to tell time in Spanish, expressing what time it is and at what time events take place. Felices fiestas!

Italian: – (Signora Pescatore) – Students will be completing the labeling of maps of Italy with geographical features, cities, bordering countries and republics. They will receive two quiz grades for their maps: one for accuracy and one for appearance.They will also complete a map with the twenty regions of Italy.

Health: – (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will finish up the unit on risks and unintentional injuries by reading several articles and identifying the risks and hazards that led to the injury.  Our next unit will be about diversity.

Science: (Ms. Cerretani):  We are in the midst of our photosynthesis unit and will finish up some time when we return from vacation.  We will then move on to cell reproduction and mitosis.  Students will be able to explain why mitosis is important and will learn the different stages of the process.  We will also be comparing mitosis in plant and animal cells.  The science mid-year assessment will be on Thursday, January 8th.  Study guides have been given out in class so students can start reviewing.  Happy Holidays!!

Math: (Mr. Vitale) – After break, we will be working with combining fractions and mixed numbers that have different denominators using addition and subtraction. We will also be multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers. The mathematics mid year assessment is scheduled for Monday, January 12, 2015. Study guides have been given out to each student and a copy is also accessible via our classroom blog.

Language Arts: – (Ms. D’Arcangelo) – After vacation students will continue to work on the pronoun unit. We will  start a new literature unit, which will also be accompanied by new vocabulary. The language arts mid-year assessment will be on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. Please make sure you use the study guide to help prepare for the exam. Happy holidays and enjoy winter break!

Social Studies: (Mr. Kingston) –  We are finishing up an in class project, a pop up book on the history of the Israelites.  Classes have received their study guide for the Mid-Year Exam, which will be given on Friday January 9th, 2015. After we return from vacation, we will review for the exam and then begin a unit on ancient Greece.  Hope you all have a great holiday!!

French (Mme Pescatore) – Bonnes fêtes et bonne année!  In early January, French students will be continuing in Lesson 7 studying how to tell one’s age. There will be a quiz on family vocabulary from page 45 and from their notes. Students will prepare and deliver an oral presentation describing family members.

Latin : (Mr. Sullivan)-Students will read and study and be quizzed on the Roman  beliefs about death and life after death; they will contrast the Roman concepts about death with the American way of death; they will also continue translating sentences from Latin into English.

Science (Mrs. Scelsi) – The science midyear exam has been scheduled for Thursday, January 8th.  They have been given a study guide and I am planning to review with them when we return from vacation.  Students can use their textbook, past tests, quizzes and homework as well as online resources to review.  We will begin the section on photosynthesis and respiration after the midyear exam.  Have a wonderful vacation!

Math: (Ms. Miley) – When we return from winter break, we will be continuing to do some review for the Mid Year Assessment scheduled for Monday, January 12 in the morning. Students have been working on a quiz project based on the study guide due January 6th. This should have been completed before vacation during time given in class and HW before the break. Study guides and project description have been handed out and are posted on my blog. The next unit is on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. Students will have a quiz on adding and subtracting fractions Friday, January 16th. Have a restful, fun vacation!

Language Arts: (Mrs. Donovan) – After vacation we will begin work on our next part of speech, “adverbs”.  Special attention will be given to comparative and superlative forms as well as correct usage.  A unit quiz is tentatively scheduled for Friday, 1/16 – a study group will be held after school on Thursday, 1/15, until 2:30.  We will also be starting the novel, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, with vocabulary, chapter summaries, and open responses.  The List I vocabulary quiz is scheduled for Thursday, 1/15/15.  The ELA Semester Assessment will be given on WEDNESDAY, 1/7/15 – study guides have been distributed in class and are also available on the class blog.  Have a safe and happy vacation!
