8A

December 23, 2014

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) – When we return from winter break we will be preparing and    reviewing for our midterm exams. Social studies midterm will be on January 7, 2014. Students should   review their notes and study guides on chapters 11, 12 and 13. Happy holidays to all, Mrs. Volpe.

Math – (Ms. Mantia) – The math midyear exam will be Friday, January 9th.  Extra help is after school on Thursday, January 8th.  Students received a study guide (topic list) prior to vacation.  Students may use this topic list to guide them in reviewing previous quizzes and tests in preparation for the exam.  On the Monday after vacation all students will receive an additional practice packet.  This packet will have a schedule for the week leading up to the exam.  Students will complete work in the packet during class time and for homework.  If students miss class for any reason, they may use the schedule to keep up with the work in the practice packet.

Science:  (Ms. Gorham) – After vacation, we will be reviewing for the mid-year exam.Their science mid year will be on Friday, January 16.  The students received their study guides prior to vacation and will work in the packet over the break.  The test will cover, Nature of Matter, Chemistry and Density.

ELA: (Mr. Pearl) – After vacation, we will review for the semester assessment that will be given on Wednesday January 14th. We will also start our next independent reading project. Additionally, we will start a brief unit on Shakespeare’s Sonnets. The next weekly assignment sheet will be distributed the first day back after vacation.

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will begin Capitolo 6, L’Ambiente, The Environment. They will learn the names of the four seasons, how to ask about the weather and many ways to describe the weather in Italian.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) –  In early January Spanish students will continue work in Chapter 7 finishing study of vocabulary of sports and starting present tense stem-changing verbs (e to ie). Felices fiestas!

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – When students return from winter break, they will be reviewing stem changing/”boot” verbs. The quiz on these verbs is scheduled for Wednesday 1/7 for 8B, and Thursday 1/8 for 8A & 8C. Following the quiz, students will learn how to express that they like, are bored by, or interested in certain things. Extra help will be available on Tuesday 1/6 for the quiz!

Latin: (Mr. Sullivan) –Students will study and be quizzed on the demonstrative pronoun for “that”–ille-illa-illud; they will read and be tested on the founding and maintenance of the city Alexandria;and they will continue translating sentences from Latin into English.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will be finishing up the unit on stress by learning different methods for reducing stress, such as exercise, deep breathing and guided imagery.

Math: (Mr. Peterson) –  This week, students worked on scientific notation and the pythagorean theorem.   The math midyear has been scheduled for Friday, January 9th.  The topics on the midyear will include all topics from chapters 1-3 in the textbook.  We will be reviewing for the midyear extensively from Monday, January 5th- Thursday, January 8th.

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) –  The History midyear has been scheduled for January 7th and will cover our study of Islam, Africa, and China.  Students have been given their study guides and a review session will be held on Tuesday, January 6th.  Happy Holidays!

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron) – The ELA midyear exam has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 14th.  Students were given a review packet this week to help them prepare.  Completed review packets are due on Tuesday, January 6th.  There will be a test on Monday, December 22nd on the first six chapters of Roll of Thunder.  Students were given a study guide, and we held a review in class on Friday.

Science: (Mr. Marino) – Students will be taking an exam on Density, Volume and Mass before vacation. They have been working on a NOTABILITY DEMO called DENSITY CUBE DEMO, and will be making film capsule submarines that must suspend in a fish tank filled with water. Students will have three chances to calculate and modify their sub to measure the same mass as water. Aspen is currently up to date on most students. If your child has been absent please encourage them to make up the work.

French: (Mme Abrams) –  In early January, French students will be working in Lesson 18 on definite and indefinite articles in the negative, and general uses of the articles in the French language. Bonnes fêtes et bonne année!

Health: (Mrs. Fay) – Students will be finishing up the unit on stress by learning different methods for reducing stress, such as exercise, deep breathing and guided imagery

December 23, 2014 

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) –  Students finished up a study of the Pythagorean Theorem last week.  We have been reviewing for the Mid Year Exam, which will be given on Friday, January 9th.

Social Studies: (Mrs Bova) – Our Social Studies Mid-Year Assessment Test will be given on Wednesday, January 7th.  Students were given their Study Guide last week which can be found in their binders along with other helpful worksheets..  Since then students have been practicing their map skills, vocabulary terms and essay topic.  It is crucial that they review these materials during our holiday break to better prepare them for our Mid-Term Assessment.

Science: (Mr. Hickman) –   After vacation, we will be reviewing for the mid-year exam.  Their science mid year will   mId-term will be on Friday, January 16.  The students received their study guides prior to vacation and will work on the packet over the break.  The test will cover, Nature of Matter, Chemistry andDensity.

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – The ELA midyear exam has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 14th.  Students were given a review packet this week to help them prepare.  Completed review packets are due on Monday January 5th.  We will be reviewing extensively during class time to prepare for the exam.  Classes will begin the debate unit after the holiday vacation.  Students will have the opportunity to suggest topics for the debate.  We will discuss fact versus opinion and proper research techniques.

French: (Mme Pescatore) – In early January, French students will be working in Lesson 18 on definite and indefinite articles in negative sentences and on the general uses of articles in the French language.
