October 16, 2015

Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – Next week the students will continue their unit on Chemistry. We will continue to focus on physical and chemical changes. We will also be comparing mixtures and compounds.

Math: (Ms. Mantia) – Next week will continue our work with multiplying and dividing positive and negative numbers.  Students will use the multiplication and division rules to simplify variable expressions.  Students will also learn how to write and solve equations modeling real-world situations such as business loss per day and calculating the velocity of an object.  There will be a quiz at the end of the week.

ELA: (Mrs. Kotarakos) – Next week we will wrap up our Hair Raising Tales Unit.  Students will be given a study guide at the end of the week and the test will be the following week.  On Wednesday, students have their first book report due.   They will be peer editing in class on Monday.  Finally, in grammar, we will continue our study on nouns.  

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will be learning how to use the first group of regular –ire verbs in Italian. There will be a quiz on how to use these verbs in sentences.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Students will take a quiz on the “to be” verbs, “ser” and “estar” on Wednesday, 10/21. Students will then review the meanings and conjugations of verbs learned in 7th grade.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) –  Spanish students will be learning Chapter 6 vocabulary (family) with a quiz by the end of the week.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – Students will be learning Chapter 6 vocabulary (family) with a quiz coming soon.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will be viewing a short video illustrating cyber-bullying.  They will then analyze the roles of each character, attempting to identify which characters have opportunities to discourage the bully.  Students will then create role plays using these characters.

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron/Mr. Pearl)- Next week we will continue our reading or Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. We will also finish our grammar unit on adjectives and adverbs and review all eight parts of speech. See weekly assignment sheet for details.

Social Studies:  (Mrs. DiSipio) – We will continue our study of medieval China next week.  Students will be studying the dynastic cycle, as well as, the various construction projects that went on during the Sui Dynasty.  Students should expect a quiz at the end of next week and should use their vocabulary and presentation notes to help them prepare.  

Science:  (Mr. Marino) – Students have been working on modeling condensation and will continue working on the states of matter next week. We will have an exciting lab next week which involves non-newtonian substances.

Math:  (Mr. Peterson) – This week, students completed 2.5 (multiplying with variables) and 2.6 (distributive property) and we had a quiz on sections 2.4-2.6.  We will finish up chapter 2 next week, and we will begin chapter 3 (solving multi-step equations).

French:  (Mme Abrams) – French students will continue to learn how to ask questions. They will also learn the present tense of the irregular verb faire (to make or to do) as well as some idiomatic expressions that use this verb. Students can expect a quiz on the forms of this verb as well as the idiomatic expressions.

Health:  (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will be viewing a short video illustrating cyber-bullying.  They will then analyze the roles of each character, attempting to identify which characters have opportunities to discourage the bully.  Students will then create role plays using these characters.

Social Studies:  (Mrs. Volpe) – Next week  we will continue our  studies on  how Chinese rulers brought peace, order, and growth to China.  Students will compare and contrast the major ideas within the religions of Buddhism and Confucianism.  

ELA:  (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – Next week students will be tested on nouns.  Classes will receive review exercises, and we will review together in class.  Students will also finish the Hair Raising Tales literature unit, review, and prepare for a test.

Students should be reading their independent novel focusing on the opposite gender.  

Math:  (Mrs. Wilkes) – Next week we will spend most of our time studying the distributive property. This property will be useful later in other areas of algebra this year.  The distributive property is used before any other operation:    A (B + C) = AB + AC    When one or more of these letters is a negative number the end result will be changed.

Science:  (Mr. Hickman) – Next week, students will continue their study of matter with several labs involving phase changes between states of matter.

French:  (Mme Pescatore) – Students will continue to learn how to ask questions in French. They will also learn the present tense of the irregular verb faire (to make or to do) as well as some idiomatic expressions that use this verb.

Latin:  (Mr. Sullivan/Mr. Finnigan) – Students will finish their initial exploration of Latin verbs of the first and second conjugations (present active indicative) and review this material for the Chapter 2 quest, which will be on Wednesday, 10/21. Students will then move on to Chapter 3, wherein they will learn about masculine nouns of the second declension, uses of the genitive and vocative cases, and prepositional phrases.  
Health:  (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will be viewing a short video illustrating cyber-bullying.  They will then analyze the roles of each character, attempting to identify which characters have opportunities to discourage the bully.  Students will then create role plays using these characters.
