October 2, 2015

Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – Next week the students will be turning in their Periodic Table of Elements project. (Due Tuesday)  Students will also be reviewing for the Matter test on Friday. After school help will be on Thursday.

Math: (Ms. Mantia) – We are beginning Chapter 2 which involves addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with integers (positive and negative numbers).  Students will use operations with negative numbers to represent real-world situations such as difference between profit and debt, changes in elevation, and differences between positive and negative temperatures.  There will be a quiz later in the week.

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson) – Next week the students will have a quiz on section 3 “Muslim Ways of Life” and begin reviewing for the Chapter 11 test.

ELA: (Mrs. Kotarakos) – On Monday students will begin writing their own short stories in class.  Guidelines and a rubric will be handed out on Monday.  Also, we will begin our next literature unit on Hair Raising Tales.  Finally, students should be reading their book report book every night.  

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will have a quiz on the possessive adjectives on Thursday, October 8th. They will begin Chapter 5, La Casa (The House).

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Next week, students will review for a vocabulary quiz. This vocabulary was all previously learned in 7th grade. Quiz 1 will be on Wednesday, 10/7. Quiz 2, with the second half of the vocabulary, will be on Friday, 10/9.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams)Spanish students will continue their review of 7th grade topics with a series of 50 questions. Students will be practicing these during the week and will be expected to answer them in an oral interview.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – We will finish up our review with a verb quiz next week. Students should be studying AR, ER, and IR verbs as well as irregular verbs (ser, estar, ir, dar, and ver).

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will be completing a personal health inventory to assess their own health habits.  We will have a general discussion on nutrition, sleep, and exercise before we move into the next unit on cyber-behavior.

ELA: (T. Bergeron)- Next week we will finish our literature unit on short stories. We will also finish our grammar unit on nouns and their functions. See weekly assignment sheet for details.

Social Studies:  (Mrs. DiSipio) – Students will continue to learn about the cultural and scientific achievements of the Muslim civilization, as well as about the daily life of the peoples of the Muslim empires.  Students should expect a quiz on Chapter 11, Section 3 at the end of next week.  

Science:  (J. Marino) –  Students will begin a new unit on viscosity and fun labs are scheduled next week.

Math:  (Mr. Peterson) –  Students completed sections 2.1-2.3 (absolute value, addition and subtraction with positive and negative numbers with variables), and had a quiz on these sections on Friday.  Next week, we will work on 2.5 (multiplication with variables) and 2.6 (distributive property).

Social Studies:  (Mrs. Volpe) – Next week we will continue our studies on Islam.  We will be having a chapter test on Wednesday.

ELA:  (T. Nelson-Boyd) – On Monday students will write the book analysis rough draft. They will use the drop down web to guide their rough draft.  The final copy will be due on Friday.  Next week we will also continue with the grammar unit on nouns and literature unit on Hair Raising Tales.

Math:  (S. Wilkes) – Students will continue working in Chapter 2. We will be  reviewing  addition and subtraction of all real numbers, including integers, fractions, decimals, and all rational and irrational numbers both positive and negative.

Science:  (Mr. Hickman) – Next week, students will continue their study of the structure of matter with several labs characterizing different types of chemical bonds.

  French:  (Mme Pescatore) – French students will be finishing Lesson 15 with a quiz.  They will need to review the following topics: verb vocabulary, the present tense of verb main gof verb making  sentences negative and using adverbs correctly in sentences.

Latin:  (Mr. Sullivan/Mr. Finnigan) – Next week, students will finish chapter 1 and take a quest on this material on   Wednesday, 10/7. We will then proceed to Latin for the New Millennium, Ch. 2, wherein we will begin discussing the Latin verbal system (1st-2nd conjugation verbs, present active indicative) and examining Roman comedy and plays through reading selections of Plautus’ Menaechmi in Latin.
