October 30, 2015

Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – Next week we will go over the difference between Ionic and Covalent bonding. We will review at the end of the week for a Chemistry Test on Monday Nov 9. I will be after school on Thursday Nov. 5th for extra help.

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson) – This week in Social Studies we finished up Chapter 12 section 2 on Chinese Society. We concluded the week with the quiz on the section and will be starting up section 3 “The Mongols in China” (one of my favorite sections) next week.

Math: (Ms. Mantia) – Students will receive a Chapter 2 study guide on Monday.  We will spend Monday – Wednesday reviewing for the Chapter 2 test scheduled for Thursday.  Students will need to know how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with positive and negative numbers, use the distributive property, and solve real-world situations involving integers (such as debt and velocity).  Extra help is Wednesday after school from 2:00 – 3:00.

ELA: (Mrs. Kotarakos) –  Next week students will finish their story stories that they have been working on in class.  In grammar, we will wrap up our unit on nouns with a test on Friday.  The next book report book must be approved by me no later than Tuesday.   This book report will be an oral presentation.  Guidelines and a rubric will be handed out in class next week.  

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will be learning the ordinal numbers from the 1st to the 40th. Their quiz on the -ire verbs that take -isc will be on Wednesday, November 4th.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Next week, students will begin Chapter 6 in the textbook. This chapter contains family member and house vocabulary. Students will work on learning, memorizing, and using family member vocabulary in Spanish.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) –  Spanish students will be working on vocabulary related to the house in Palabras 2 in Chapter 6. Students can expect a quiz during the latter part of the week.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – Students are continuing to work on the Boot Verb Tener and will begin a Family Tree Project next week.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) – Students will be finishing up and then presenting their role plays about cyberbullying.  Students will be graded on their ability to demonstrate a positive lesson about how to stop or prevent bullying.

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron/Mr. Pearl)-Next week we will continue our reading of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. We will also begin a grammar unit on pronouns and their functions. See weekly assignment sheet for details.

Social Studies:  (Mrs. DiSipio) – We will continue our study of medieval China next week.  Students will be discussing Chinese inventions and how these advancements changed daily life.  Students should expect one quiz at the end of next week and should use their presentation and binder notes to help them prepare.  

Science:  (Mr. Marino) –   Students will have vocabulary quiz next week, they have been working on an assignment that will help them review the words. In addition the words are on the blog. I am still accepting Lego donations for the Middle School Robotics Club 🙂

Math:  (Mr. Peterson) –  This week, students worked on section 3.3 (solving multi-step equations and word problems).  Next week, we will work on section 3.4 ( solving equations with variables on both sides), and we will have a quiz on 3.3 and 3.4 at the end of the week.

Social Studies:  (Mrs. Volpe)Next week we will be learning about how the Tang dynasties strengthened China’s economy by supporting farming and trade. We will be having a quiz on Friday.

ELA:  (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) -Independent novels must be read by Wednesday!!!

Next week, students will be introduced to our next literature unit the play Twelve Angry Men.  We will discuss the background and our justice system prior to reading.

I will introduce how to properly incorporate PIE writing into formally written papers, and students will  draft their gender book analysis on Wednesday (and Thursday if needed).  

Math:  (Mrs. Wilkes) – Next week we will begin Chapter 3.  This chapter involves solving linear equations by various methods.  Students need to have a thorough understanding of working with linear equations in order to do some of the other concepts we will be studying later in the year.

Science:  (Mr. Hickman) – Next week, students will continue their study of matter with several experiments creating and characterizing homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures.  There will be a final test on chemistry basics next Friday, with a review on Thursday.  The first of two study guides was distributed today.
