8A

November 25, 2015

Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – Next week the students will continue their unit on Density. The students will be required to bring in a liquid (of any type) for their Group Project. Students will create a Density Liquid Layer and complete a TWO-Part Lab Report. This will include a written portion as well as a Glogster presentation. The written portion will be due Friday Dec. 4th  

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson) – Next week we will begin filming our Imovie projects on China. Students will be using a green screen in the Library and their Ipads to complete the project.

Math: (Ms. Mantia) – Students will continue their work solving multi-step equations.  These equations include positive and negative numbers, all four operations, like terms, and distributive property.  Students are also learning how to write and solve multi-step equations to solve real-world problems.  There will be a quiz on Friday, December 4th.

ELA: (Mrs. Kotarakos) – This week we finished our background information and research on “Twelve Angry Men”.  Next week we will start to read the play in class and discuss as we read.  In grammar, we will wrap up our verb unit.  A study group will be held after school on Monday, November 30th, until 2:30 in preparation for a test on this unit on Tuesday, December 1st.  Please arrange transportation ahead of time if your child wishes to attend the after-school session.   All students should be reading their book report book.  Guidelines and the rubric were passed out in class.  Oral book reports start on Monday, December 7th.  

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will be learning how to use the contractions on page 133 to express “in the” with nouns.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – There is no homework over the Thanksgiving break! When students return, we will play Jeopardy! to review Chapter 6 in its entirety. The Chapter 6 Test will be on Wednesday 12/2 for 8A. Following the Chapter 6 Test, students will compose a two paragraph essay in Spanish describing their family members and homes. We will be using the Mac Lab to formally type these essays.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – There is no homework over the Thanksgiving break. When we return, Spanish students will be learning about possessive adjectives in Chapter 6.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – Happy Thanksgiving! After the break we will begin learning about a new formula, IR + A + Infinitive.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will be beginning the unit on stress.  Students will learn about the fight or flight response, the impact of prolonged stress on health, and ways to reduce stress.

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron/Mr. Pearl)- Next week, we will continue working on our ROTHMC analytical essays. We will also continue our independent reading project and our grammar work on pronouns. See weekly assignment sheet for details.

Social Studies:  (Mrs. DiSipio) – We will be studying the rise of the Ming Dynasty next week.  Students will study what led to the fall of the Yuan Dynasty and how the Chinese were able to reunite to take back their land.  There will be a Chapter 12 test on China on Friday, December 4th.  Study guides will be given out on Monday.  

Science:  (Mr. Marino) –  Next week students will continue their study of density

Math:  (Mr. Peterson) – This week, we are starting our geometry unit.  We completed section 4.1 (graphing on the coordinate plane).  After Thanksgiving, we will be working on geometry topics such as rotations, translations, and reflections.

Social Studies:  (Mrs. Volpe) – Students will continue their studies on China. They will be learning about the Mongols  and how they created a new dynasty that traded with the rest of Asia. Have a Great Thanksgiving!

ELA:  (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) –  Next week we will continue to read Twelve Angry Men in class and discuss as we read.  We will also review function of nouns to prepare for a test and also the mid-year assessment.

Math:  (Mrs. Wilkes) – Students will learn how to solve equations with variables on both sides.  This will also

be applied in real life situations, where the student will write an equation to describe the situation and solve.

Science:  (Mr. Hickman) – Next week, students will continue their study of the density of matter with several labs investigating Archimedes’ Principle.  Using objects made from different substances and liquids with different densities, students will measure the buoyant force of the liquid as it reduces the apparent weight of each object.  All density labs and worksheets should be turned in by Wednesday.

French:  (Mme Pescatore) – Students will have a quiz on the vocabulary from pages 140, 142 and 144 on Wednesday, December 2nd, and a quiz on all of Lesson 17 on Friday, December 4th.

There will be a quiz on the Ch. 4 vocabulary on Friday, 12/4. On the culture front, students will continue to learn about Cicero–one of Rome’s greatest statesmen, orators, and authors–and will read a selection from one of his philosophical works.
