8A

        November 7, 2014

Math: (Ms. Mantia)  – There will be a Chapter 2 test on Monday, November 17th.  Extra help will be after school on Thursday, November 13th from 2:00-2:30.   The test is on integer operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and distributive property as well as word problems.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) –  Next week  we will continue our  studies on  how Chinese rulers brought peace, order, and growth to China.  Students will compare and contrast the major ideas within the religions of Buddhism and Confucianism.  We will be having a quiz on Thursday.

Science: (Ms. Gorham) – The Students will continue to work on their chemistry unit.  There will be a vocabulary quiz on Friday.

ELA: (Mr. Pearl) – Next week we will finish our grammar unit on the parts of speech. We will also start the Multi-Cultural Literature Project (MCLP). See weekly assignment sheet for details.

 

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will be concluding the unit on the house by asking and answering questions about their own house or apartment as well as writing a paragraph describing where they live.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – Spanish students will be studying the verb “tener” and how it is used with idiomatic expressions. We will also review the verb “ir” and how this verb is used to express the near future.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) –  Next week, students will be exploring the culture section of Chapter 6, which includes readings about the “quinceañera,” role of godparents in Hispanic families, and the artwork of “Las Meninas.” Students will also conduct a class discussion and analysis of Frida Kahlo’s life and works.

Latin: (Mr. Sullivan) – Students will continue translating sentences with relative clauses in Latin; they will read and be quizzed on the Britons’ resistance to the Roman conquest; and they will  read about Cogidubnus , a king who eventually declared his loyalty to Rome; and students will continue translating sentences from Latin to English.

Health: (Ms. Fay) – Students will present their role plays about bullying prevention this week, then will begin a new unit on stress after that.  The unit on stress will focus on how stress impacts our health, how we can become more aware of stress, and how we can relieve stress.

November 7, 2014

Math: (Mr. Peterson) –   This week, students finished section 2.7 (division with variables) and 2.8 (probability), and had a quiz on sections 2.6-2.8.  On Friday, we began chapter 3 (solving equations).

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) – Students will begin their study on medieval China next week.  We will explore how China was reunited under the Sui Dynasty.  We will also study the origin of Buddhism and how it spread to China.  Students should expect one vocabulary quiz on Chapter 12, Section 1.  They should use their presentation and vocabulary notes to prepare.

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron) – We will continue doing research for our Multicultural Literature Unit each day next week.  We will also go over the rubric for the oral presentation students have on the 20th for the book they have been reading.  Students should be reading and working on their interview essays at home.  All due dates and assignment details can be found on the unit overview sheet on our homework blog and on google classroom.  We will also extend our study of pronouns by looking at common errors in pronoun usage.

Science: (Mr. Marino)–  Student will be differentiating between covalent and ionic bonds. They will be primarily be using their chemistry books. By the weeks end they will have had 2 quizzes and 2 homework assignments and a lab coming soon.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – Next week students will begin work on Unit 3.  We will begin with solving linear equations using addition and subtraction.  This concept is crucial for the new algebraic concepts students will soon be learning.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Bova) – Next week we will learn about Chinese Society. Students will learn about how farming and trade brought wealth to China. We will discuss the new technology in Medieval China and create a group project about four technological advances.

Science: (Mr. Hickman) – Next week students will continue their study of chemical reactions.  The lab report on Physical and Chemical Properties and changes is due on Wednesday.   A full description of the report is on today’s homework blog.

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – Next week students will be writing the research paper rough draft.  Students have had class time using their iPads to research and take notes.  It is imperative that students have their note cards in class with them to write the body paragraphs.  Classes will also peer edit the rough drafts in class.

On Wednesday, there will be a test on nouns.  Classes received review grammar exercises and reviewed in class as well to prepare for the test.
