December 11, 2015

Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – Next week the students will finish their unit on Density. There will be a Test on Friday. Students will receive their study guide on Tuesday.

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson) – Next week, we will be beginning chapter 14 on Japan. The students will be finishing their Imovie presentations as well as having a binder check.  

Math: (Ms. Mantia) – On Monday, we will finish the last section of Chapter 3.  This section involves rewriting equations to solve for specific variables.  On Tuesday, students will receive a study guide with practice questions for the Chapter 3 test.  We will spend Tuesday and Wednesday classes reviewing for the Chapter 3 test. The test will be on Thursday.  Extra help is after school Wednesday from 2:00-2:30.

ELA: (Mrs. Kotarakos) – In literature, we will continue our unit on Twelve Angry Men, with a focus on character analysis and summary writing.  Oral presentations will also continue.  Finally next week students will receive their mid-year review; it will be due the Tuesday after vacation (January 5th).

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students are learning to use the irregular verb dovere (pages 130-132) in sentences. Their quiz will be on Wednesday, December 16th. Then we will begin a reading and discussion of famous places and monuments in Italy (page 137).

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Next week, students will review Chapter 7, Words 2. This vocabulary consists of baseball and basketball terms. The vocabulary quiz on these words will be on Thursday, 12/17. Following the quiz, students will spend time covering this chapter’s culture. Professional soccer, the World Cup, and other popular sports in Latin America will be discussed and analyzed.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – Spanish students will be starting Chapter 7 and the first vocabulary words (Palabras 1) related to sports, especially soccer.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – Students are completing Chapter 6 next week. After the Chapter 6 Test we will begin learning Chapter 7 Vocabulary.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will be reading current research articles on the impact of stress on health and presenting the findings to their classmates.

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron/Mr. Pearl)- Next week we will finish our grammar unit on subject-verb agreement. Students will also finish their independent reading projects and their personal research projects. See weekly assignment sheet for

Science:  (Mr. Marino) – Students finish working on their density lab using liquids and were able to stack fluids in layers based on their density. Next week students will continue their unit on density and we will have a test closer to holiday break.

Math:  (Mr. Peterson) – This week, students finished geometry sections on dilations, congruency, angles, and similar figures.  On Thursday, we had a test on geometry.  Next week, we will continue working on geometry topics such as interior/exterior angles and figures using parallel lines.

French:  (Mme Abrams) –  In Lesson 18, French students will be wrapping up their review of the verb AVOIR along with some expressions using this verb. A quiz is scheduled for Tuesday. We will then move onto reviewing and analyzing the use of articles in French.

Health:  (Mrs. Fay) – Students will be reading current research articles on the impact of stress on health and presenting the findings to their classmates.

ELA:  (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – Next week students will present their oral book analysis using their iPads.  Students had two days of class time to create their presentation.  Also next week students will receive their mid-year review, and it will be due the Tuesday after vacation (January 5th).  

Math:  (Mrs. Wilkes) – Students are currently in a short Geometry Unit as we implement all strands of the Common Core for eighth grade.  Concepts include translations, reflections, rotations, dilations, congruence, similarity, and angle relationships.

Science:  (Mr. Hickman) – Next week, students will continue their study of the density of matter with several experiments measuring the density of gases.

French:  (Mme Pescatore) – In Lesson 18 students are using the verb avoir in sentences. There will be a quiz on Wednesday, December 16th. Then we will be reviewing and analyzing the use of articles in French.

Latin:  (Mr. Finnigan) –  Next week will begin with a review of the material covered in Ch. 4 in anticipation of the Ch. 4 quest on Wednesday, 12/16. Material assessed on this quest includes 2nd declension neuter nouns, the dative case (indirect object), 1st & 2nd declension adjectives, and noun-adjective agreement. Students will be given a review sheet/practice quest on Monday. We will then continue to Chapter 5, wherein we will continue to learn about Cicero and will read an adapted version of one of his most famous letters to survive from antiquity. Grammatically, we will be focusing on 1st and 2nd declension –er adjectives.
