Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) – Next week we will continue our studies on Japanese religion and culture. Students will understand how Buddhism and Shinto helped shape the culture of Japan.
Math:  (Miss Mantia) – At the beginning of next week there will be a quiz on scatter plots.  Students need to know variables (independent and dependent), correlations (positive, negative, and no), and how to create a scatter plot and trend line.  After the quiz we will move on to the topic of slope and discuss how the slope of a line corresponds to a rate of change such as pay per hour.
Science:  (Ms. Gorham) – Next week the students will continue their unit on H&T. We will focus on thermal equilibrium. There will be a lab report assigned later in the week.
ELA: (Mr. Pearl) – Next week we will continue our grammar work on commas and our poetry unit. Students will also complete their independent reading projects. See weekly assignment sheet for details.

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will continue working with three irregular verbs in sentences with and without idiomatic expressions. There will be two separate quizzes using these verbs.
Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – Spanish students will be finishing up Chapter 7 with a review and testing (listening and writing tests).
Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Students will begin to explore Chapter 8 vocabulary, which deals with emotions, illness, and the doctor’s office.
Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will begin the unit on alcohol by learning about how alcohol is metabolised by the body and its effect on our physiology. Students will work with a partner to research and answer questions on this topic.

Math: (Mr. Peterson) – This week, students had a quiz on sections 4.2 (table of values) and 4.3 (x and y intercepts).  On Friday, we began section 4.4(slope).
Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) –  There will be a quiz on Tuesday, February 3rd on Chapter 14, Section 2.  Students should use their class and vocabulary notes to help them prepare.  We will then begin studying the daily life and culture of medieval Japan.
ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron) We have now finished reading Roll of Thunder.  Students will have a test on chapters 7-12 on Monday.  Students were given a study guide and a quotes review sheet to help them prepare.  Extra copies can be found on the team homework blog.  We will spend the rest of the week working on a writing assignment for the book, and I will also introduce students to the many sonnets of William Shakespeare.
Science: (Mr. Marino) – Students will prepare for MCAS every Friday by reviewing on what I call “Flash Back Fridays”. During the week we will also investigating how heat transfers through a variety of states of matter.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley)- Chapter 7 Test will be on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Then students will begin learning vocabulary from chapter 8.

French: (Mme Abrams) – Once we finish the writing activities of Lesson 19, French students can expect a lesson quiz.  We will then start Lesson 20 studying additional adjectives and the colors.
Health: (Mrs. Fay) – Students will begin the unit on alcohol by learning about how alcohol is metabolised by the body and its effect on our physiology. Students will work with a partner to research and answer questions on this topic.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – We will spend next week studying section 4.4 which involves finding the slope of a line by using the slope formula as well as by using rise over run when the line is graphed.  This concept is basic to much of what we will be doing the rest of the year as well as what students will be doing in high school math.
Science: (Mr. Hickman) –  Next week, students will continue their study of energy with several
labs measuring the specific heat of different materials.  Today’s energy quiz will be returned on Monday.
ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) –  On Tuesday there will be a test on pronouns.  Students received review exercise to complete over the weekend.Next week students will finish writing their debate speeches and prepare the rebuttal.  Debate teams will get the opportunity to practice their speeches before the debates begin on Wednesday.
