February 12, 2016

Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – After vacation the students will continue their unit on Heat and Temperature. Students will be assigned a Lab Report on Heat Transfers and Thermal Energy. The lab report will be due on Friday Feb. 26th.

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson) – This week we finished up the chapter on Japan and began the next chapter on medieval Europe. Students finished a haiku poem project and did origami for extra credit! When we come back from vacation, study will resume with medieval europe and learn about how Charles Martel led the Franks to victory.

Math: (Ms. Mantia) – After vacation students will continue the unit on Slopes.

ELA: (Mrs. Kotarakos) –  Students should be looking for their next book report book.  Today in class they received a sheet outlining the book report topic.  All books must be selected and approved by me no later than Friday, February 26th.  When we return from vacation, we will finish the novel Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry.

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – After vacation students will be learning the many forms in Italian that express “to the” on pages 160 to 162. There will be a quiz using these contractions at the end of the week. Buone vacanze!

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – After vacation, students will continue to review Chapter 8 vocabulary. They should expect a quiz on these words by the end of the week.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – After vacation, Spanish students will swap into other textbooks and will begin to study the vocabulary of Chapter 8 on health, well-being, and common illnesses.  Buenas vacaciones.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – Students will have their Chapter 7 Test after vacation, they will then begin Chapter 8 in a new textbook.

Health: (Mrs. Fay ) – Students are beginning the unit on alcohol.  Students will learn about the effects of alcohol on the body, blood alcohol levels, alcohol poisoning, and alcohol addiction.

Health (Ms. Eovine) – Students will begin the unit on Alcohol.  The focus will be on alcohols path in the body, Blood alcohol levels, and alcoholism. Students will be working with a partner on worksheets in google classroom.

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron)-  Students should begin looking for their next independent reading book. The requirements for this book are detailed on our blog. After vacation, we will finish writing our position papers on trial by jury.

Science:  (Mr. Marino) – Students will begin the unit on heat transfers when they return. We will be also continuing our lab on pendulums.

Math:  (Mr. Peterson) –  This week, students had a quiz on section 4.6 (slope-intercept form), and then worked on section 12.5 (pythagorean theorem).  Following vacation, students will finish chapter 4 in textbook with section 4.7(slope-intercept), and 4.8 (functions).  

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) – This week, we began our unit on Medieval Europe.  We reviewed Europe’s geography and discussed how this influenced where the medieval Europeans settled.  We also discussed the feudal structure and will study Charlemagne when we return from vacation.

ELA:  (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – After vacation students will be introduced to William Shakespeare.  We will read some of his sonnets in class, discuss, and put into our own words.  Students will also have the opportunity to write some of their own original sonnets.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) –  Students will continue their studies on medieval kingdoms and crusades. They will understand how the kingdoms of England established parliaments and how Russia’s rulers laid the foundations for its government. Students have been working diligently on their Medieval Europe projects. They are doing a great job.  Have a safe and happy vacation.

Math:  (Mrs. Wilkes) – Students have learned how to find the slope of a line by using the slope formula.  They are also able to find the slope of a line from a graph by using rise over run.  When we return from the break, we will continue in Chapter 4: “Graphing Linear Equations and Functions”.

Science:  (Mr. Hickman) – Following winter break, students will continue their study of emergy will several labs measuring the transfer of thermal energy through conduction, convection and radiation.  Their will be a quiz on thermal energy (Chapter 6 in Motion, Forces and Energy) at the end of the week.

French:  (Mme Pescatore) – After vacation, French students will study the use of “c’est” as contrasted with “il/elle est” in Lesson 20. Bonnes vacances!

Latin:  (Mr. Finnigan) – Students will spend most of the week following the break reviewing the vocabulary, grammatical forms, and syntax from lessons 1-4. There will be a short quiz on the lesson 4 vocabulary list on Weds., 2/24. The quest on lessons 1-4 will be given on Friday, 2/26. Have a great vacation!
