May 15, 2015

Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – Next week the students will begin their unit on pressure. We will focus on fluid pressure.

Math: (Ms. Mantia)- Students will complete a practice test by Monday in preparation for PARCC next week.  We will spend Monday and Tuesday classes reviewing the practice test and topics for PARCC.  After PARCC, students will continue with the chapter on solving systems of equations.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) –  Next week we will be learning about the causes and the effects of the Reformation.  Students will be introduced to the key reformers such as Martin Luther and John Calvin.  They will understand how the reformers began a new Christian movement.

ELA: (Mr. Pearl) – Next week we will continue our debate work and our independent reading project. Students will also complete their analytical essay on A Separate Peace. See weekly assignment sheet for details.

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) –  Because of testing the quiz on the past tense has been rescheduled for the week of May 18th. Students will also be working with food vocabulary on pages 210 and 211.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Students will continue to review 7th and 8th grade concepts (vocabulary & grammar) for their cumulative final exam, exact date TBA.

Spanish: (Mrs. Abrams) – Spanish students will be working in Chapter 9 on -er and -ir verbs in the present tense.

Latin: (Mrs. Matthews) – Next week the students should expect a quiz on Wednesday, May 20 on the Chapter 19 vocabulary. We will also learn the use of the Vocative and Imperative.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will be finishing up the unit on violence prevention by taking the quiz and viewing a video about “break up” violence.  We will also discuss the cycle of violence and why people find it so difficult to end harmful relationships.

Health: (Mrs. Eovine) – Students will be finishing the unit on Male and Female reproductive systems.  The first class  meeting students will have a test on the male system.

Math: (Mr. Peterson) –   This week, students worked on chapter 10 (factoring).  At the end of the week, we worked on PARCC review.  Next week, we will continue PARCC review, and the PARCC math tests will be on Wednesday and Thursday.  

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) – We will begin our study of the Reformation next week.  Students will be able to explain how Martin Luther’s movement to reform the Catholic Church led to new brances of Christianity.

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron) – We will continue with our poetry unit next week.  Students will be asked to read and analyze a collection of poems as well as write their own.  All students should select and begin reading their next independent reading book by Monday.

Science: (Mr. Marino) – Students will begin their unit on pressure and learn how to calculate PSI, which is a common unit students will be using throughout life.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – Students have just completed the section on solving systems of linear equations by using the graphing method, the substitution method, and the elimination method. Next week we will look at a variety of Common Core topics as students take the Math PARCC test on Wednesday and Thursday.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Bova) – Next week, students will learn how humanists studied the Greeks and Romans, and how the printing press spread humanist ideas.  Students will also discover how Renaissance art and ideas spread from Italy to northern Europe.

Science: (Mr. Hickman) –  Next week, students will continue their study of pressure with several labs measuring atmospheric pressure.

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – Next week we will continue the literature unit on the play The Diary of

Anne Frank.  Students need to bring their independent novel to school next week to read after P.A.R.C.C testing.

French: (Mme Pescatore) – French students will be working in Lesson 22 learning how to express places to go in the city.
