Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – Next week the students will be taking the MCAS exam. Science MCAS will be Wednesday May 13th and Thursday May 14th. Good luck!

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) –  Next week we will continue our studies on the Renaissance and we will be learning about how humanist ideas evolved and how they spread.

ELA: (Mr. Pearl) – Next week we will continue our debate project. Students will also be reading their independent reading books. We will also finish our grammar work on verbal phrases. We will also work on our ASP analytical essay. See weekly assignment sheet for details.

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will be learning how to express past actions using the passato prossimo (present perfect tense) of regular verbs in Italian. There will be a quiz at the end of the week.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Next week, students will review for their Chapter 9 test. On Thursday, 5/14, 8A will take their test. Following the test, students will begin reviewing all 7th and 8th grade concepts for a final exam.

Spanish: (Mrs. Abrams) – Spanish students will be working on Palabras 2 in Chapter 9, the vocabulary related to winter sports. They can expect a quiz on this vocabulary during the week.

Latin: (Mrs. Matthews) – On Tuesday the students will take the Chapter 18 Test. On Wednesday we will start with Chapter 19 and learn more about the goddess Isis. We will also learn about hic and ille.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will be finishing up the violence prevention unit by reviewing the laws that apply to sexting and stalking.  Students will also view a video portraying the development of a dangerous dating relationship.

Health: (Mrs. Eovine) – Students will be continuing the unit on Human Sexuality.  The focus will be on the Female Reproductive System.  Students will have an assessment the second class meeting.

Math: (Mr. Peterson)
–   This week, students continued working on chapter 10.  We finished sections 10.2 (multiplying binomials) and 10.3 (multiplying special products).  On Friday, we began working on section 10.5 (factoring), and we will continue 10.5 next week.

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) –  We will be studying how the humanists spread ideas and the artists created paintings and sculptures during the Renaissance.  Students will be reviewing characteristics of Renaissance art in order to identify them while looking at pieces of art.  Students should expect one quiz based on Chapter 17, Section 2.

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron) – Students should finish writing their Book vs. Movie essay rough draft over the weekend.  We will peer edit, work on quotes, and review MLA format Monday in class.  The final draft will be due on Tuesday.  We will also begin our poetry unit next week. Students will be expected to complete homework from their literature textbooks throughout the unit.

Science: (Mr. Marino) – For extra credit students can watch the Avengers in the movie theater and write a 1 paragraph essay on how the science of the movie is/ is not real science. Other extra credit assignments are available per in person requests before and after school. Thanks.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – We are now studying a variety of Common Core concepts such as applying the Pythagorean Theorem to determine unknown side lengths in right triangles in real-world and mathematical problems in two and three dimension.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Bova) – Next week, students will begin our new unit “The Renaissance and Reformation”, Chapter 17 in our textbook.  Students will learn how Italian city-states began a rebirth of learning and art in Europe.  They will also discover that Italy’s location helped it grow wealthy from trade and banking.

Science: (Mr. Hickman) –  Next week, students will continue their review for the Science and

Engineering Technology MCAS test which will be given next Wednesday and Thursday.

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – Students were given the May/June independent reading assignment.  This novel should be brought to school to read after MCAS and PARCC testing as well as independently read at home.

On Tuesday there will be a literature test on the Hair Raising Tales unit.  Students will receive review questions to answer and use as a study guide.  We will begin a new literature unit on Wednesday.

We will be reviewing grammar over the next couple of weeks including punctuation.
