September 18, 2015

Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – Next week the students will continue their unit on Nature of Matter. We will discuss “What makes something Matter vs Not Matter”  We will also review the three phases of matter. Students received their Metrics Quiz back on Friday.

Math: (Ms. Mantia) – Students are continuing their work with the applications of variables, exponents, and percents to the solution of real world problems. There will be a quiz on section 1.3-1.5 next week.

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson)This week in social studies we wrapped up chapter 11 section 1, “The Rise of Islam”. Next week we will be starting the book cover project and beginning section 2, “Islamic Empires”.

ELA: (Mrs. Kotarakos) – Next week we will continue our short story unit.  Students will have a vocabulary quiz on Tuesday, September 22 on the first list of words from this unit.  In grammar, we will continue our study of Sentences, Subjects, and Predicates.  Lastly, students received their first book report guidelines and rubric.  They should be reading their fiction independent novel and taking notes, which will help them when they start to write their book analysis.   

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – Students will finish activities using -ere verbs correctly in sentences  and will have a quiz on Thursday, September 24th.

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Next week, students will review their unit on Spanish speaking countries and their capitals by playing Kahoot! The quiz on this material is scheduled for Wednesday, 9/23. Following the quiz, students will begin reviewing the 7th grade verbs “ser” and “estar.”

Spanish: (Mrs. Abrams) – Spanish students will be reviewing verbs from seventh grade. A quiz on the meanings will be scheduled during the week. Students should now have books covered – thank you to Market Basket in Billerica who donated paper bags.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – Students are continuing their review of vocabulary learned in the 7th grade. Students should focus on pages 4-7 of their review packet.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) –  Students will be working in groups to complete the project entitles The Health President.   Students are creating a plan to increase the health of the US.

Math: (Mr. Peterson) – This week, students worked on sections 1.3 (order of operations), 1.4 (inequalities), and 1.5 (equations).  We will have a quiz on these topics on Tuesday.  Following the quiz, we will complete 1.6 (graphs), and 1.7 (functions).  

Science: (Mr. Marino)- Students are finishing up the unit on metric conversions and will begin the unit on nature of matter using their Nature of Matter books. Books should be covered. I have material to cover books should they need it. 🙂

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) – We will study the spread of the Islamic Empire into areas of Asia, Africa and Europe during the Middle Ages.  Students should expect a quiz at the end of the week on Chapter 11, Section 2.  

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron) – Next week we will continue our short story unit. We will also have a test on grammar packet questions 1-7. Students will be working on an essay about their “treasure.” See weekly assignment sheet for details.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) – Students are currently refreshing their skills on working with fractions and decimals.  Next we will continue with the review in Chapter 1, picking up with equations and inequalities.

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) – Next week we will continue our studies on the followers of Islam, called Muslims, and how they conquered or converted people as they spread their faith throughout the Middle East and the Mediterranean. Reminders: Maps are due on September 21st and Say It In Arabic is due on September 22nd.

Science: (Mr. Hickman) Next week, students will continue their study of the nature of matter with several labs evaluating the structure and phases of matter.  The metric system quiz will be returned on Monday.

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – Next Wednesday students will be tested on the first literature unit.  Students will receive extensive review questions which we will go over together in class.  There will also be a test on the grammar unit Sentences, Subjects, and Predicates.  We will review notes and exercises to prepare for the test.  

Students should be reading their independent novel.

We will read short stories similar to those read last year in Unit 1 to apply and practice this material. Students should expect a vocabulary quiz on Unit 1 vocabulary on Thursday, 9
