Grade 8 Newsletters 6/3/2016

Science: (Mrs. Gorham) – Students will begin the unit on Pressure. We will focus on Fluid pressure. Students will also receive their force and motion tests back.

Social Studies: (Mr. Nelson) – This week in social studies we started chapter 17 section 4 and began learning about conflicts between Catholics and Protestants in Europe during the sixteenth and seventeenth century. Next week we will quiz on Tuesday and have a test on chapter 17 on Thursday.

Math: (Miss Mantia) – The final test of the year will be at the end of next week.  The topic is FOIL and Factoring.  Students will receive a study guide prior to the test.

ELA: (Mrs. Kotarakos)- Next week we will finish the book Fahrenheit 451.  There will be a test on the novel on Tuesday.  There will also be a Fahrenheit 451 list 3 vocabulary quiz on Wednesday.  

Italian: (Mrs. Pescatore) – On Tuesday, June 7th, students will have their quiz on the present perfect tense with verbs that take essere as the helping verb. During the week they will be watching the award winning movie in Italian, La Vita è Bella (Life is Beautiful).

Spanish: (Ms. Mirabella) – Next week, students will continue their unit on Latin Dancing. First, students will view authentic Latin dances in a film. Next, they will try those dances themselves during class! At the end of the week, their unit on Latin music begins.

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) – Spanish students will complete Chapter 9 with listening and written chapter tests.

Spanish: (Señora Barkley) – Students will complete Chapter 9 with an Oral Quiz and a Written Test.

Health: (Mrs. Fay) – Students will be learning about the female reproductive system, and will have a short quiz about the anatomy and physiology.

Health: (Ms. Eovine) –  Students will continue the unit on human sexuality.  The focus will be on defining viral and bacterial sexually transmitted infections, how they are transmitted, and detection and treatment of these infections.

Science: (Mr. Marino) – Lab reports are due.  Study for compression test.

ELA: (Mrs. Bergeron) –  Students took a vocabulary quiz on Friday that covered words from “Flowers for Algernon.”  There will be a grammar test on Wednesday that students should be preparing for by studying their review guide.  We will do a review leading up to the test as well as read and analyze famous American poems throughout the week.

Social Studies: (Mrs. DiSipio) – Students will be taking a Chapter 17 test on Wednesday, June 8th. We will be reviewing in class on Monday and Tuesday. Students should use their vocabulary and presentation notes to help them prepare.  This is our last test of the year, but students should expect homework to continue through the last week of school.  

Math: (Mr. Peterson) – This week, students worked on chapter 6 (inequalities/absolute value).  We completed sections 6.3 and 6.4, and students will have a quiz on these sections next week.

ELA: (Mrs. Nelson-Boyd) – The test on Fahrenheit 451 has been pushed back until Wednesday.  Students have been reviewing all week and will review Monday and Tuesday.  Classes will also receive a grammar review packet to prepare them for a grammar test next week.  

Social Studies: (Mrs. Volpe) – Next week we will continue our studies on the Enlightenment and the Revolution. Students will learn how Britain and France established colonies in the North America.

Math: (Mrs. Wilkes) –  Next week we will complete our study of radicals.  Students will be tested Tuesday or Wednesday on this topic, from Sections 9.2 and 12.2 of our text.  Then we will begin our study of exponents.

Science: (Mr. Hickman) – Next week, student will continue their study of force and motion with several experiments involving velocity and terminal velocity.

French: (Mme Pescatore) – French students will be finishing Lesson 23 with a lesson quiz. 

Spanish: (Sra. Abrams) –  Spanish students will complete Chapter 9 with listening and written chapter tests.
