Instruction

The Marshall Simonds Middle School curriculum serves as a vital link between the elementary school and Burlington High School. Teachers and members of the leadership team have developed specific curriculum units at each grade level. Curriculum guides, course outlines, and assigned student materials provide a clear and definitive organization pattern for the varied middle school curriculums.

Teachers at grade levels meet as academic departments regularly with the principal and team leaders. During these meetings the scope and sequence of individual programs is reviewed and evaluated. These curriculum meetings are held to ensure that all children are receiving similar grade level curriculums. Although teachers are given many opportunities to individualize their programs, it is important that curriculum coordination be maintained.

Inclusion is an educational concept that is implemented at all grade levels at MSMS. Students on Individualized Education Plans are fully immersed in English Language Arts and Math classes in order to meet established curriculum objectives.

Marshall Simonds has wonderful teachers who incorporate the use instructional technology in their instruction.  Under Burlington’s 1:1 iPad initiative, Marshall Simonds’ teachers utilize iPads into everyday teaching practices. In addition, the School has iMac and PC labs to enhance all subject area instruction.
